Red Deer Law Day Law Day is a fun, free, family-oriented event being held on Saturday, April 25, 2020 at the Red Deer Courthouse! Come join us to learn about the legal system!

Law Day is a national celebration and commemoration of our nation’s adoption of the Charter of Rights and Freedoms. The Canadian Bar Association and its provincial branches continue to use Law Day to increase public awareness, knowledge and understanding of our laws and legal system. Law Day promotes access to justice and highlights the lawyers and legal services that serve our community. This yea

r we have put together a diverse program of events to target a broad spectrum of the population in Central Alberta. Law Day will be celebrated on April 22, 207 at the Court House in Red Deer with a number of free activities, information sessions, displays and tours. We are inviting groups such as the RCMP, Victim Services, Fish and Wildlife, Native Counselling Services, Legal Aid and the Central Alberta Crime Prevent Centre to provide displays and volunteers to give information about their respective organizations and roles in the legal system. Local lawyers will give free legal advice in an “Ask-A-Lawyer” booth and provide legal health checklists on a variety of topics such as landlord and tenant issues, wills and estates, and family law. A number lawyers from our local bar will be performing in a mock trial to demonstrate how a court case proceeds. The Bowden Penitentiary will be attending with a “drug dog” and handler to provide demonstrations throughout the day. Employees of the Court House will be hosting tours of the Court House and prisoner cells. There will also be many other exciting family-friendly activities for the public to participate in. Law Day 2017 will be a busy, entertaining and informative event for the public.
