Lumber Market and the Pallet Industry

The lumber market is crazy. Limited supply, limited inventory, demand increasing, softwood prices up 40 to 120% since April: The Perfect Storm!

Be careful : prices should be less of a concern than having the material in your yard ! Expect more increases in the next few weeks:

Lumber prices will keep adjusting for a few more weeks then will probably soften then settle, probably somewhere between the peak and where we were a couple months ago. We are many weeks away from that.

In the USA, fuel prices used to be $1.40 a gallon then went to $4.10. Then it settled between $2 and $3 and we got used to it. Now at $2,25 it looks like a deal! The “new normal” lumber prices may be somewhere halfway between March 1st and September prices.

Pallet lumber prices are going up at a fast pace especially SPF. Now hardwood and aspen prices are going up every week.

A 2 or 3 % increase is like a 6'' putt. 6% is like a 2ft putt. We are probably going to see weekly increases. Unfortunately, No "gimmie" ahead.
