Update on Cold Creek Wildfire in Port Alberni.
According to the B.C. Wildfire Service, the Cold Creek fire (incident ID V70341) located about 2 km east of Port Alberni is officially classified as “Being Held,” meaning it is not expected to spread beyond its current boundaries under current conditions. There is no risk to the event this weekend from this incident.
Important Fire Safety Information:
Absolutely no smoking on course, at the start/finish, or in forested areas. Embers from ci******es are a leading cause of human‑caused wildfires.
If you’re parking at the Mosaic Log Sort: Do not park over dry grass or brush. Catalytic converters can ignite vegetation in seconds. Follow volunteer parking instructions carefully.
CO₂ cartridges are safe when used properly, but:Do not discard spent cartridges on the ground.Place them in your pocket or saddle bag.A hot cartridge in dry grass is a hazard.
If you see: Smoke, A smouldering patch, A flare‑up, A suspicious heat source, Tell the nearest course marshal or aid‑station volunteer right away.
