Fondé en 2011 par MARK THE MAGNANIMOUS et SEVDEE du collectif K6A, ARTBEAT MONTRÉAL a comme mission la promotion des artistes de musique électro-acoustique Québécois (connus sous le nom de beatmakers). L'organisme a produit neuf événements de signature, sept présentations axées sur la relève appelé ARTBEAT REVELATION ainsi que participé à des festivals comme OSHEAGA, IGLOOFEST, PIKNIC ÉLECTRONIK e
t MEG. ARTBEAT MONTRÉAL a directement contribué à la création d’une plateforme pour un segment artistique qui auparavant n’avait pas de vitrine pour exhiber leurs talents dans un format de spectacle. De nombreux artistes Montréalais de renommée ont fait leurs toutes premières apparitions au ARTBEAT, notamment KAYTRANADA, HIGH KLASSIFIED, SHASH’U ainsi que DA-P. Aujourd’hui, on compte plus de 50 beatmakers qui contribuent au folklore ARTBEAT. Les styles musicaux des artistes ARTBEAT sont hétérogènes, mais se rallient dans leur méthode de création. Des équipements électroniques, tel des Boîtes à Rythmes (Drum Machines) et des Logiciels de Musique Assistée par Ordinateur (MAO) sont les outils principaux de cette nouvelle catégorie de musiciens. Héritiers spirituels des techniques de production de la génération Hip-Hop, les beatmakers contemporains poussent les limites de l’expérimentation sonore offerte par ces machines. L’innovation et la diversité sont les règles d’or de cette nouvelle recette de composition musicale. Cette approche inédite rend la performance traditionnelle difficile, malgré la popularité croissante de leur discipline. Trop souvent, leur travail est éclipsé par les performances vocales qui accompagnent leurs oeuvres musicales. De plus, ils se voient confinés au public virtuel et ne peuvent aller au delà des réseaux sociaux qu’ils fréquentent. C’est pourquoi ARTBEAT MONTRÉAL a créé une formule de spectacle unique baptisée LA TABLE RONDE DES BEAT BUILDERS, où l’emphase est mise sur une démonstration consécutive des créations de plusieurs beatmakers à la fois. Cette formule propose une cadence dynamique ainsi qu'un sentiment de communauté qui manquait à la présentation publique du beatmaking.

Founded in 2011 by MARK THE MAGNANIMOUS and SEVDEE of the K6A collective, ARTBEAT MONTREAL's raison d'être is to promote Québec-based electro-acoustic artists and composers, commonly known as beatmakers. The organization has produced nine signature events, seven up-and-comer showcases called ARTBEAT REVELATION and participated in festivals such as OSHEAGA, IGLOOFEST, PIKNIC ÉLECTRONIK as well as MEG. ARTBEAT MONTREAL has developed a platform for a segment of the artistic community which lacked a dedicated space where they could showcase their talents in a live show format. Several renowned, Montreal-based artists made their very first public appearances at ARTBEAT, notably KAYTRANADA, HIGH KLASSIFIED, SHASH’U as well as DA-P. While styles vary, the common denominator among ARTBEAT performers is in how the music gets made. Production equipment such as drum machines, synthesizers and computer-assisted, Digital Audio Workstations (DAWs) are the tools of this new trade. Having inherited recording techniques from the Hip-Hop generation of yesteryear, today's beatmakers push the creative envelope and are prone to experimentation thanks to the ease of access afforded by modern technology. As such, innovation and diversity are the main ingredients in this sonic gumbo. Despite a spike in popularity and renewed interest in the craft of beatmaking, this novel approach makes traditional presentations a challenge. Oftentimes, the composition is overlooked in favour of the vocalist. Furthermore, theirs is a niche so narrow that several talented beatmakers find themselves unable to escape the limitations of their social networks. In response, ARTBEAT MONTREAL created a live performance formula dubbed the BEAT BUILDERS ROUND TABLE, emphasizing the consecutive sharing of several beatmakers' works at a time. This formula gives the night a dynamic pace as well as reinforces a sense of community previously absent from the beatmaker image.
