The Okanagan already has the scenery. The next step is strengthening the community behind the camera.

There are filmmakers, actors, writers, crew, musicians, artists and creatives building things right here in the valley.

And the more opportunities there are to meet, collaborate, share work and learn from each other, the stronger that local industry becomes.

That’s a big part of what OKIFF wants to help create.

Beautiful locations are a great start.
People are what turn a place into a film community.

The kind that make you laugh, squirm, think, question what you just watched... and then bring them up again three days later.
Independent film gives creators room to take risks, try something unexpected and tell stories that might never make it through the usual formula.

So here’s to the strange ideas.
The tiny productions.
The ambitious experiments.
The films that refuse to play it safe.

Someone has to make the weird films. Why not you?

Would you go into a movie completely blind?

Just a title, a runtime, and a seat in the theatre..

There’s something kind of exciting about seeing a film without already knowing what to expect. No hype, no spoilers, no algorithm telling you whether it’s “for you.”

Sometimes taking a chance is how you find a new favourite. 🍿
