🧡 The moose hide pin is a reminder to stand together against violence toward women, children, and Two-Spirit people and the responsibility we all carry to help create safer spaces for our youth.

Every day, we see how important it is for children, youth, and families to feel safe, supported, connected, and surrounded by community. We understand that healing is not something that happens alone - it happens through relationships, language, culture, shared teachings, and community members showing up for one another with kindness and respect.

Violence impacts entire families and communities. If a youth or family is in immediate need of support, our crisis line is available 24/7 at 1-800-638-0715. To learn more about the programs and supports available through Kasohkowew Child Wellness Society, visit: https://www.kasohkowew.com/programs

It's Mental Health Week so let's take some time to check in with ourselves and with each other.

In our community, support doesn’t come from one place; it shows up in the way we care for each other, in the teachings shared by Kokoms and Mosoms, and in the connections that keep us grounded.

This is what guides our work at KCWS as we walk alongside children, youth and families to create spaces where culture, care, and community come together. If you or someone you care about is looking for support, you can learn more or connect with us.

Across our community, red dresses are hung as a reminder of missing and murdered Indigenous women, girls and Two-Spirit relatives. They represent lives that are loved, deeply missed, and never forgotten.

Our Mosoms and Kokoms teach us to hold one another close - mâmawî wîcihitowin: working together, helping one another.

Today, we hold space for grief and for the families who continue to carry their loved ones with them, every day. To remember is to carry love forward; to speak their names is to keep them with us.

Staff members will be out of the office from May 4th to May 8th, 2026. Our team will be back in the office on May 11th, 2026, to resume regular hours of operations.

They say it takes a village — so this week, we honour the volunteers and caregivers who share their time and knowledge to support our children and families.

Whether you’ve shared teachings, supported programs, or simply shown up when it matters most, your presence makes a difference in the lives of our children, families, team and community.

Thank you for being part of this work🌼

The land guides us in our work, as we honour the teachings, strength, and connection given to us by Mother Earth 🌎

That connection shapes how we support children, youth, and families every day. Through our Mosom and Kokom Advisory Committees and programs like our Band Designate and Cultural Summer Camps, we support children in staying connected to our families, culture, and community.

This Life Book is dedicated to the memory of Heather Foureyes-Charles whose heart held a deep and unwavering hope for every child in care - to be seen, heard, and remembered. Our vision was not just to create a book, but to build a space where each child could tell their story with pride, honesty, and love. Though Heather is no longer with us, her compassion and belief in the power of storytelling lives on in these pages. May her legacy continue to inspire and bring light to every journey shared here.

We would also like to extend our deepest gratitude to those who made this Life Book possible through their support, guidance, and commitment. Special thanks to Director Carolyn Peacock, Assistant Director Brooke Lightning-Montour, the KCWS Elders Committees, and the KCWS Board of Directors: Holly Johnson, Gilda Soosay, Tom Crier, Brian Lightning, Izaiah Omeasoo-Swampy, board Elder Helen Louis, and Chief Vernon Saddleback.

A heartfelt thank you to Betty Simon for her help in the Cree translation, as well for her wisdom and care. Your contributions have helped bring this vision to life, creating a lasting gift for the children and youth we serve. A special thank you to pipikwan pêhtâkwan for giving this document life - transforming a heartfelt dream into a meaningful and tangible reality. Your creative vision helped bring voice and beauty to every page.

It is our hope that one day, youth will look back on their Life Book and reflect on their experience in care and acknowledge that Kasohkowew Child Wellness Society played an important role in their life.
