Here’s another chance to see the present and the future as the Canadian Track & Field Tour stops at the Royal City Inferno Track & Field Festival in Guelph.
In the mix with some of Canada’s brightest stars chasing Olympic spots will be the future of sprinting, as we continue our search for Ontario’s Fastest Kids! Besides the chance to race, distance queens and Olympians Madeleine Kelly and Lucia Stafford will present the awards to the kids.
Madeleine began running at the age of 12 and went on to run collegiately for the UofT, where she was a four-time CIS/U SPORTS Champion with the relay team, winning three straight 4x800m titles from 2016 to 2018 and a 4x400m title in 2017, along with the U SPORTS XC team title in 2017. In 2019, she took bronze at the Harry Jerome Track Classic and won her first Canadian 800m title later that summer. Madeleine won bronze at the Canadian Olympic Trials in 2021, earning her spot for Tokyo 2020.
Lucia started running in grade four and made her international debut at the 2016 U20 World Athletics Championships after winning the national junior title in the 1500m and gold in the 1500m at the Junior Pan Am Games in 2017. In 2021, Lucia ran a 4:05.30 PB in the 1500m, won silver at the Canadian Olympic Trials and qualified for Tokyo 2020. In her Olympic debut, she ran a PB of 4:03.52 in the first round and 4:02.12 in the semis. Competing collegiately for the UofT, Lucia won three U SPORTS titles in 2017, three OUA titles in 2018, and was named the Female Performer of the Meet at the U SPORTS Championships. Lucia also represented Canada at the 2019 FISU Universiade, finishing fifth in the 1500m and 4x400m relay.
