Mayworks Fredericton

Mayworks Fredericton Mayworks Fredericton aims to help build a culture and society that celebrates the history and struggle of working people in New Brunswick.

Mayworks Fredericton will be a multi-disciplinary arts festival open to the general public. It aims to help build a culture and society that celebrates and recognizes the history and struggle of the working people of New Brunswick. The festival will span over a period of time before and after May 1st this year, the internationally recognized Worker's Day, and serves as an extended celebration of t

he day's significance to all workers and those seeking justice. The festival's mission is to connect workers and artists, to promote working class culture, and to celebrate our stories. Workers and artists share a common struggle for decent wages, healthy working conditions and a vibrant, relevant culture, that reflects their lives. Art that expresses the condition of working people and their everyday lives is often over-looked and the art created by everyday people, newcomers, equity-seeking groups, and people in poverty, also often has no venue. Mayworks Fredericton promotes the work of artists that highlight the struggles of working people, justice and diversity, and promotes art made by workers. Mayworks Fredericton programming is not limited to any medium for artistic expression. The festival will program works of music, theatre, cinema, printmaking, painting, photography, literature and more. We are eager to further diversify our programming. Mayworks Fredericton is a project of the Fredericton and District Labour Council. 2016 will mark the 2nd annual Mayworks Fredericton festival.
