What a beautiful way to celebrate this winter and spring season of Badlands Pickleball.

Today we gathered for an afternoon of outdoor pickleball, a fun round robin, and our Badlands Cup celebration dinner at Pizza 249 . Even with a bit of wind, we were grateful for a nice enough weather window to play outside, enjoy the courts, and celebrate together.

Thank you to everyone who showed up today, and to everyone who took part in the Badlands Cup and our coach led community play throughout the winter and spring season.

A special thank you to Pizza 249 for presenting the Badlands Cup and hosting us for today’s celebration dinner. Your support throughout this season, and your hospitality today, were truly appreciated.

Thank you as well to KenCo Environmental for being one of our community sponsors and for supporting this season.

We also want to thank the Drumheller Titans for their support. Part of our heart with Badlands Pickleball is to be involved locally, support community sport, and keep building positive connections in and around Drumheller.

A huge thank you to Morrin School and the Morrin community for welcoming us throughout the season. Being able to gather there, play, learn, compete, and grow the game was a real gift. A special thank you to Becky, principal at Morrin School, for helping make that possible and for being so supportive along the way.

I also want to recognize Bob Chambers, Laurie, Carrie, Betty, and everyone else who helped make the Morrin experience so meaningful. Whether you helped things run smoothly, showed up faithfully, encouraged others, or simply brought a great attitude to the courts, you helped shape this season in a real way.

Thank you also to Coach Paul, Coach Rob, and Kyle for helping with coaching and player development. Your time, encouragement, and willingness to help others learn and grow were truly appreciated.

This season was never just about pickleball. It was about people, connection, encouragement, healthy competition, and building something meaningful here in the Badlands and surrounding communities.

We had players come from Drumheller, Morrin, Delia, Three Hills, Hanna, Rumsey, and beyond. Today, Dana and Norah joined as last minute additions and helped complete a great group of advanced and intermediate players.

Congratulations as well to our prize winners from throughout the season: Colette Pettis, winner of the Selkirk backpack, Glenn Carmichael, winner of the Selkirk paddle cover, and Ken Little, winner of the Selkirk Labs paddle cover.

As many of you know, Virginia and I are preparing for a move closer to the Three Hills area. Badlands Pickleball was a vision we carried together, and we are so grateful that this chapter started here, in and around the Badlands. Wherever the next chapter brings us, this foundation will always remain part of what we carry forward.

I truly hope pickleball continues to thrive in Drumheller. There are good people here, a strong community spirit, and so much potential for the game to keep growing.

Thank you again to every player, volunteer, coach, sponsor, referee, friend, and supporter who was part of this season. Thank you as well to the Fairgrouds and Pickleplex in Red Deer for being part of the Badlands Cup journey.

It has been quite a ride, and we are very grateful.

And just like that, this chapter of the Badlands Cup has come to a close.

What a series.

First, a huge thank you to our presenting partner, Pizza 249, and to our community partner and co sponsor, KenCo Environmental. Your support helped make this series possible, and I am truly grateful.

To every player who stepped on the courts throughout the Badlands Cup, thank you. This series was built with one goal in mind: to create a place where players from different communities could come together, compete, connect, and play against people outside their usual pickleball circle.

And that is exactly what happened.

Players came from Drumheller, Red Deer, Three Hills, Stettler, Calgary, Carstairs, Innisfail, and beyond. That means a lot. You helped turn this from an idea into a real happening.

A special thank you to Sheila and the team at Pickleplex Red Deer for such excellent hospitality during the final round. You made everyone feel welcome, and the environment was first class.

Thank you as well to Fairgrounds Public Social Racquet Club for being part of this journey and helping us bring the Badlands Cup on the road.

To our referees throughout the Cup, thank you. Jane White and Doug Eyres did a fantastic job officiating the final round, and Doug DeWitt and Brian Wilkens brought that same level of professionalism and fairness to earlier rounds. Your presence helped raise the level of play and gave the series a true competitive standard.

To all the players, thank you for your effort, your sportsmanship, your patience, your competitive spirit, and your willingness to be part of something new.

This chapter is now done, and I am turning the page with a grateful heart.

I wish you all a great summer. I am not exactly sure yet what the next chapter will look like for the fall, and there may even be an invitational coming up this summer. I will definitely be in touch.

Things are happening for Badlands Pickleball, and I am thankful you were part of this season.

Please consider following the Badlands Pickleball page if you have not already.

On that note…

Stay out of the kitchen!

Reminder for tomorrow night (Thursday May 21, 6:30pm) in Three Hills. (Kingman park)

I’ll be on site answering questions about competitive pickleball, DUPR ratings, rated games, and how to join the Badlands Pickleball DUPR Club.

I can help assess where you are at, explain how ratings work, and help get you rolling with your first rated games if you are ready.

Coach Paul will be alongside me, and Kyle and Chelsea are also expected to be there as advanced players.

Come on down, ask questions, play some games, and step up into the next part of your pickleball journey.

The Final Round is almost here.

This Saturday, May 23 at 3:00 PM, the Badlands Cup closes its spring series at Pickleplex Social Club in Red Deer.

This series has been about more than games and scores.

It has been about players stepping into their first competitive experience. Learning to play with referees for the first time. Competing with respect. Staying humble. Seeing where we are at. Taking the next step.

That is what Badlands Pickleball is all about.

Elevating people through the game.

Pickleball is fun, social, recreational, competitive, challenging, and full of life. But at the end of the day, pickleball is also a tool.

A tool for growth.
A tool for connection.
A tool for confidence.
A tool for sportsmanship.
A tool for community.

This spring, the Badlands Cup helped bring that to life.

Thank you to every player who showed up, competed, learned, encouraged, adjusted, and helped make this series meaningful.

Thank you to Pizza 249, our presenting partner, and KenCo Environmental, our community partner, for supporting the Badlands Cup throughout the spring.

Players will receive their schedule by Friday.

Badlands Pickleball has more coming this summer and fall, but for now, we celebrate one final spring stop.

One more round.
One more challenge.
One more great day of pickleball.

What a great afternoon of pickleball in Red Deer for Badlands Cup Round 4.

I am so grateful for the players who came out from Calgary, Rocky Mountain House, Red Deer, and our own Badlands area. Different communities, different styles, different stories, all coming together through this game we love.

There were big smiles, fierce rallies, close matches, and a really good spirit on and off the courts. That is what the Badlands Cup is all about. Fun. Friendly. Fair. Real competition, but with community at the heart of it.

A huge shout out to the two teams who finished with three wins: Lane L with Chris L, and Kolten H with Gage L. Well done, guys. Great playing and great spirit on the courts.

A huge thank you to Fairgrounds Public Racket Club at Bower Place Mall in Red Deer for hosting us and giving us such a great place to play.

Thank you as well to Pizza 249, our presenting sponsor, and KenCo Environmental, our community sponsor, for helping make these events possible.

A special thank you to our referees, Doug and Brian, for doing another excellent job and bringing that calm, professional presence to the matches.

Round 5 is coming up in two weeks, and we would love to welcome more players from out of town to join us in the Badlands. If you have not followed the Badlands Pickleball page yet, please give it a follow and stay connected with what is coming next.

Grateful for this game, grateful for the people, and grateful for the community that keeps growing around it.

Three rounds in, and the momentum is real.

Badlands Cup is giving players the chance to step outside their usual ecosystem, face different styles, and enjoy real competition that is fun, friendly, and fair.

Round 4 is coming this Saturday, April 25 from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM at Fairgrounds Racket Club in Red Deer, and we are almost full.

A few spots remain in the Challengers category
DUPR 2.76 to 3.49

We will have referees on site, and at just $20, this is a great chance to get quality competitive matches in without the heavy cost that usually comes with tournament play.

If you are planning to play the Western Open or any other tournament this summer, bring your partner and come compete.

Friday, April 24 at 6:30 PM is an optional free practice and preparation night at Morrin School Gym for players and Badlands Pickleball DUPR Club members. Registration is still required.

Sunday, April 26 at 6:30 PM is our final Sunday Social Night before we shift to Friday and Saturday programming in May.

Round 5 is coming May 9, and a reminder that the final round is on May 23 at Pickleplex.

Follow the page, stay connected, and message me to register or claim one of the last remaining spots.
