An immersive sound experience beneath the dome at Armagh Planetarium

Experience the Planetarium in a completely different way.

On Sunday 20 September, settle into a reclining seat beneath the dome for an immersive journey through sound, visuals and space.

A specially created soundscape moves through the Planetarium’s surround sound system, while elements of Tessa Ann’s signature Sound Spa Experience are performed live beneath the dome using singing bowls, gongs, drums, percussion and voice.

As sound moves around the space and full-dome visuals unfold overhead, live performance, immersive audio and the Planetarium environment come together to create an experience that surrounds you.

This isn’t a traditional planetarium show. It’s a slower, more spacious experience created specifically for this extraordinary environment — an opportunity to pause, listen and experience the night sky from a different perspective.

Come earlier and make more of your visit by exploring the Planetarium exhibitions and visiting the café before taking your seat beneath the dome.

Two extraordinary places. Two very different ways to experience sound. 🍂✨

After another incredible experience underground at Marble Arch Caves yesterday, I’ve been reflecting on just how much each place shapes the experience of sound in its own way.

And next weekend, the landscape changes completely again.

🍂 Saturday 19 September | Temple of the Winds, Mount Stewart

High above Strangford Lough, I’ll be welcoming a small group into the Temple of the Winds for an Autumn Equinox Sound Spa Retreat Experience.

We’ll spend time with sound and stillness inside the Temple, followed by a seasonal lunch prepared by the Mount Stewart team, with time afterwards to explore the gardens and enjoy the surroundings.

11.00 am–3.00 pm | £59 including seasonal lunch | Limited to 16 guests

Sound Journey Under the Stars

The following evening, we move from landscape to cosmos.

Settle into the Planetarium’s reclining seats beneath the dome as immersive sound, live performance and full-dome visuals come together in an experience created specifically for this extraordinary space.

You can also arrive earlier to explore the Planetarium exhibitions and visit the café before taking your seat beneath the stars.

This September, The Sound Spa is bringing a series of sound experiences to four memorable locations across Northern Ireland.

From journeying deep underground at Marble Arch Caves, to the historic surroundings of Templemore Baths and the Temple of the Winds at Mount Stewart, before finishing beneath the stars in the Armagh Planetarium dome.

Each experience is shaped by its location — its atmosphere, acoustics, history and sense of place.

This year marks my 13th year hosting the World of Wellbeing at Belfast Mela 🌿

Over the years, the World of Wellbeing has continued to grow and evolve, bringing together different people, organisations and ways of experiencing wellbeing.

This year, we’re bringing much of that thinking together through The Place to BE.

Listen • Move • Pause • Connect

The Rose Garden will once again be home to the World of Wellbeing, with opportunities to experience sound, movement, conversation, community wellbeing, sensory awareness and moments simply to pause amongst the energy of the festival.

This year, The Place to BE will also extend beyond the Rose Garden into other spaces across Botanic Gardens, including the Nauroso Sensory Garden within the Tropical Ravine, inviting us to experience our surroundings through more than what we see.

I’m really looking forward to sharing more about the different spaces, people and experiences involved over the coming days.

What a journey!

Last night we travelled deep beneath the landscape at Marble Arch Caves for Lion’s Gate: A Journey Through Sound and Stillness.

It was such a unique environment in which to explore sound.

As we moved slowly through the caves, we listened to flowing and dripping water, our footsteps, the changing acoustics of different spaces, moments of stillness, and sounds introduced through voice and instruments.

One of the things I particularly wanted to explore was what happened when we didn't try to fill this extraordinary environment with sound.

Instead, we listened.

At different points, the sounds of the cave became as important as anything I could introduce. There were moments when very little was needed.

Thank you so much to everyone who came along and was willing to experience the caves in a slightly different way, and to the team at Marble Arch Caves for supporting the experience and guiding us safely through this incredible place.

I'm looking forward to continuing to explore where sound, listening and place can take us next.

Looking forward to returning to Marble Arch Caves this evening for a very special Lion’s Gate experience of sound and stillness within the living cave.

Tonight, we’ll journey slowly through this extraordinary environment, with an invitation to listen, observe, connect and respond to the caves and the changing spaces around us.

The natural sounds of water, the acoustics of the different chambers, stories of the cave, moments of stillness, sound and voice will all become part of the experience.

As we journey on 8 August, we’ll also create space for personal reflection around themes associated with Lion’s Gate, including transformation, possibility and new beginnings, while allowing everyone to find their own meaning within the experience.

I’m really looking forward to seeing how tonight’s journey unfolds.

Full Moon Sound Experience at the Wild Tipi

I’m so looking forward to returning to the Wild Tipi at Finnebrogue Woods for an intimate woodland sound experience on Wednesday 29 July.

The evening will bring together sound, stillness and the natural woodland environment, with time to slow down, listen and experience the woods differently.

Time: 6.00 pm to 8.30 pm
Price: £50 per person
Maximum 13 participants
