The Campbell River Festival of Film is back for another season! 🎬 Settle in for five standout films from around the world this Fall:

September 29: Champions of the Golden Valley
October 13: The President's Cake
October 27: I Swear
November 10: Blue Heron
November 24: Ha-Chan, Shake Your B***y!

We’re so excited this unique film night is coming to the Tidemark Theatre on Wednesday June 3 as part of Ocean Week Campbell River!

We’re especially thrilled the evening includes a variety of seaweed samples— from free popcorn with seaweed toppings, dried seaweed varieties from the Wei Wai K*m Nation to a Stonehouse Teas Signature Tea with BC bull kelp and a Beach Fire Brewing Company specialty seaweed inspired tea b**r on tap & more!

Also the film line up is awesome: starting with a short film from Jolly Good Multimedia focused on the research work being done in the waters off Campbell River by North Island College and the Wei Wai K*m First Nation. The feature film is from a Northern California filmmaker about kelp reforestation efforts.

North Island College’s Centre for Applied Research, Technology and Innovation (CARTI) researchers are inviting the community to dive into the fascinating world of seaweed at a special Seaweed Film Night on June 3 at the Tidemark Theatre, presented as part of Ocean Week Campbell River.

This engaging evening will feature a curated lineup of short films celebrating the beauty, science, and cultural importance of seaweed along our coastlines. From kelp forest ecosystems to innovative research and restoration efforts, the films aim to spark curiosity and conversation about the vital role seaweed plays in ocean health and coastal communities.

In addition to the film screenings, attendees can expect a lively, festival-style atmosphere with opportunities to connect with researchers and learn about the variety of different seaweed locally and its various roles in the ecosystem, as well as enjoy free popcorn with special popcorn seasonings designed by Chef Jonathan Frazier from NIC’s Culinary program and more.
