Congratulations to our 2025 Sports Organization of the year!
is one of the largest volunteer driven sports organizations in our community. Their goal? To help break down barriers that prevent access to basketball, and they do a slam dunk great job of it πŸ€
With nearly 750 athletes representing Cambridge Basketball in both travel and house league through the Ontario Basketball League and Ontario Cup, they offer inclusive and affordable basketball for all skill levels.

Last year they racked up:
- Three Gold Medals πŸ₯‡
- Three Silver Medals πŸ₯ˆ
- Six Bronze Medals πŸ₯‰
- Two Ontario Basketball League Championship Wins πŸ†

So congratulations and thank you for all you do for sport in Cambridge! πŸ€

Kali (Bogias) Parsons is the 2025 Heart of Sport Winner 🀍

Kali, a two time World Powerlifting Champion (1983 and 1984) embodied the values of the Heart of Sport Award every day.

She set numerous records, was awarded the KW Woman of the Year award in 1985, and is one of our own Tim Turrow Award winners twice over (1982 and 1983)

Not only that, but Kali served on the Cambridge Sports Awards Committee for years, and was our Chairperson before she passed last year. She put her heart and soul into her sport, her family and this committee.

The winner of this years George Hill Team of the Year is the Cambridge Basketball U10 boys team πŸ‘πŸ»

These young athletes moved up two whole divisions over the course of the year and came out on top to win Division 4 Gold at Provincials, and even did so with 83% of their team being first year players - what a huge accomplishment!

On this date in 1959, Glenview Park alum and cherished teacp Kali (Bogias) Parsons was born. Kali was a two time World Powerlifting Champion (1983 & 1984) and in the early 1980s she owned the Canadian Championships and constantly set new powerlifting records. Kali is also a two time winner of the Tim Turow Athlete of the Year Award. She returned to Glenview to teach and led the Panther Power Lifting Team to two Ontario Championships. Kali is a member of the Canadian Powerlifting Hall of Fame and was part of the inaugural class to be inducted into the Cambridge Sports Hall of Fame in 1997. Congratulations to gymnastics superstar Brooklyn Moors who yesterday won the NCAA National Championship in Floor Exercise. She is the first Canadian since 2018 to win a National Championship.

The 27th Induction Ceremony for the Cambridge Sports Hall of Fame will occur tomorrow adjacent to our Hall of Fame in the Cambridge Centre. The Induction will begin at 1:00 p.m. and we hope that many citizens of Cambridge will attend to help celebrate the athletic heritage of our city.
The new inductees include five athletes, two builders and three teams.
Athletes - Figure skater Bryce Davison, track & field sprinter Chris Robinson, multi sport endurance athlete Debbie Bulten and gymnasts Michaela Ge**er and her sister Aisha Ge**er
Builders - University of Waterloo women’s golf coach Carla Munch-Miranda and Cambridge sport community superstar George Hill
Teams - The 1909-1911 Galt Professional Hockey Club, the 1931 Inter County Baseball Champion Galt Terriers and the 1983 & 1984 Junior Inter County Baseball Champion Cambridge Bulldogs.

On this Family Day we salute the twenty-nine Cambridge families who have multiple members inducted into the Cambridge Sports Hall of Fame either as individuals or as members of an inducted team. The Overlands (Amanda, Cindy, Kevin Ernie and Marg Oliveira) have five family members inducted individually.The Gaudets have four family members inducted - Glenn, Jackie and Jennifer individually and Gloria as a team member. The Leggatts (Jack, Joyce and Ian), McClintocks (Jeff,Judy and Joel), Ropes (Don, Benita and Patti), all have three individual inductees. Cam MacArthur is inducted individually while his son Tim and grandson Caleb are inducted as team members making a three generation family. Dr. John and son Mike Moffatt, Ed Heather and stepson Rob Ducey, Leslie and daughter Lindsay Carson, Brenda and daughter Crystal Gilmore, Harry and son Mark Greenan, Don and son Red Laurence, Robert Benedetti and daughter Anne have all been inducted individually. Normie and brother George Himes, Jim and son Rob Baird and Hilda and sister Nellie Ranscombe are inducted individually and as team members. Helen and Marm Schmuck, Sydney and Paige Nosal, Peter and Karen deBoer, Marion and Barry Redwood, Cam and Ryan Watson, Bob and Ken Craig, Mel and Sherry Auction, Linda and Lindsey Colvin, Georgina and Tom Hawkshaw, Johnny and Darrell Wilson, Ron and Trevor Morris and Scott and Zach Buchanan are all inducted as team members.
