It takes a whole village! 💚
A huge thank you to everyone who came along, contributed, created, shared, helped, and made another amazing night of Junk to Funk happen!

By now, we all know that Junk to Funk isn’t just a one-night event! it’s an all-year-round way of connecting with others, learning new skills, keeping things out of landfill, and getting creative! ✨

Thank you for being part of the journey and for helping us turn “junk” into something truly funky. ♻️🎨

Here’s to more creativity, connection, and keeping good stuff out of landfill! 💚

💚💜 Waiheke High School joined Junk to Funk this year too, but not quite in the traditional way! ♻️✨
Instead, they took one of our broken mannequins and gave it a whole new life, transforming it into a sturdy display piece with a solid base.
Using chicken wire, they created the bottom section and decorated it with scrap fabrics that fit perfectly with our theme this year, you’ll have to wait until the night to see it! 👀🌈 There is SO much colour!
But the best part of this story is what they used to finish the look…
🗑️ Rubbish!
As part of a big clean-up around the school, the students collected a massive 3,424 pieces of rubbish — and then turned some of that waste into part of their Junk to Funk creation!

A fantastic group of students worked together on this project, and we absolutely LOVE your mahi! 💚💜

This is such a brilliant example of how Junk to Funk goes beyond the show night. It’s about creativity, teamwork, sustainability, and showing what’s possible when we look at “rubbish” a little differently.

You are an inspiration! Keep up the amazing mahi! 🙌♻️

And tomorrow, you’ll get to see their creation in person at Junk to Funk!

Welcome to Junk to Funk 2026

This year's theme shines a spotlight on fast fashion, a global challenge that continues to grow at an alarming rate. Junk to Funk invites us all to pause, reflect, and celebrate the power of slowing down.

"Slow Down. You Are Here." serves as a daily reminder that our collective identity and personal style don't need to come at the planet's expense. We don't need endless cycles of textile trends for Waiheke to remain a creative, stylish, and inspiring part of history.
