Belgian Buckler Symposium – Closing the 2026 Edition

The 2026 edition of the Belgian Buckler Symposium has come to an end, and we look back on a day filled with learning, comparison, discussion, and friendly fencing.

This year’s Comparison Edition brought together different weapons, styles, and contexts — German Sword & Buckler, German Messer, Italian Sword & Buckler, blunt and sharp fencing — allowing participants to explore similarities, differences, and shared principles across traditions.

Through workshops, introductions, the discussion group, book corner, and the tournament, the focus remained where it belongs: sharing knowledge, testing ideas, and strengthening our community.
We are deeply grateful to all instructors, participants, visitors, and volunteers who made this edition possible.

In just 10 days, the Belgian Buckler Symposium will open its doors once again, and we are very much looking forward to welcoming you. This year’s Comparison Edition promises to be an exciting and enriching experience for anyone interested in historical fencing.

What can you expect?

⚔️ 4 in-depth workshops + an introduction workshop, led by experienced instructors

No sword? No Buckler? No problem.

We’ve received a few questions about equipment, and we’re happy to reassure you:
if you don’t have the right type of sword, you can borrow one at the event.

We have a sufficient number of swords available for participants who do not own suitable equipment, so lack of gear should never be a barrier to joining the Belgian Buckler Symposium.

Just bring your enthusiasm and willingness to learn — we’ll take care of the rest.

We have recently sent an invitation to all our previous participants for the next edition on January 24, 2026 🛡️🗡️
If you joined us last year or in earlier editions, you definitely don’t want to miss this! If you want to participate in this year's edition. Stay tuned!!

This year’s edition focuses on comparing different weapons and styles: German Sword and Buckler, German Messer, Italian Sword and Buckler, blunt and sharp weapons. Workshops, introductions, discussion groups, and a book corner will make it a day full of learning and discovery.
There will also be a friendly tournament and free sparring, suitable for all experience levels.

The Belgian Buckler Symposium returns in 2026 with a vibrant, immersive edition built around a single theme: **Comparison**

This year, we explore how different weapons, traditions and fencing contexts connect, contrast and enrich one another. German Sword and Buckler, German Messer, Italian Sword and Buckler, blunt fencing and sharp fencing will all meet, clash, challenge and illuminate one another.

We proudly present a diverse program featuring four full workshops + one introduction workshop, each designed to broaden your horizon and deepen your understanding of Historical European Martial Arts.
