Pradeep shown arrested in ACC case
On August 23, the ACC filed a case against Pradeep and his wife for amassing wealth worth Tk 4 crore from unknown sources
Former officer-in-charge (OC) of Teknaf police station Pradeep Kumar, one of the key accused in Major (retd) Sinha Md Rashed Khan murder case, has been shown arrested in a case filed by Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) over accumulating wealth illegally.
The court of Chittagong Metropolitan Senior Special Sessions Judge Sheikh Ashfaqur Rahman passed the order on Monday.
Confirming the matter, ACC lawyer Mahmudul Haque Mahmud told the Dhaka Tribune that the court fixed September 20 for a hearing on the bail petition filed by the suspended police officer.
Pradeep, also one of the key accused in the Sinha murder case, was hauled up before the court at 1pm amid tight security.
On August 23, the ACC filed a case against Pradeep and his wife for amassing wealth worth Tk 4 crore from unknown sources.
Mohammad Riaz Uddin, deputy director of ACC, filed the case at the integrated court of Chittagong Divisional ACC office.
The case was filed after a search on Pradeep's assets and receiving central approval from the ACC in preliminary investigation, said the official.
The ACC's investigation against Pradeep started back in 2018.
On April 20 in 2019, Pradeep and his wife were given notice to submit the statement of their assets.
In June the same year, Pradeep and his wife submitted their statement.
Following their statement, after a long investigation, the ACC has reportedly found information about Pradeep and his wife that they had amassed assets worth more than Tk 4 crore.
Padeep has been sued in a case filed over the murder of Major (retd) Rashed Md Sinha Rashed Khan on July 31.
Major (retd) Sinha was killed in police firing at Baharchhara police check-post on July 31.
Sharmin Shahriar Ferdous, elder sister of Sinha, filed a case at Teknaf Senior Judicial Magistrate Court after the incident on August 5.
Senior Judicial Magistrate Tamanna Farah issued arrest warrants against all of the accused after taking the case into cognisance on that day. Pradeep surrendered on the following day and later police took him to Cox’s Bazar.
