In just 27, the Playa Film Festival received 30 submissions from US, Puerto Rico, Portugal, Sweden, Thailand, Türkiye, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Canada, Switzerland, Czechia, Ukraine, Estonia, Spain, Jamaica, the Netherlands, South Korea, Mexico, Slovakia, and Venezuela. Submissions for CaribShorts are free and open to Caribbean narrative short films from the Greater Antilles, the Lesser Antilles, and the surrounding basin. All selected films will compete for the Jury Award for Best Caribbean Short.

Through hands-on workshops, student crews handle every aspect of 𝗦𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗼𝗹 𝗦𝗵𝗼𝗿𝘁 𝗦𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆 production. They begin with 𝗖𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗪𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 & 𝗦𝗰𝗿𝗶𝗽𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 by pitching original concepts and shaping cohesive narratives. Next, they move into 𝗧𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗻𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗱𝘂𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻, where they master composition, audio tracking, and lighting. Finally, during 𝗘𝗱𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 & 𝗣𝗼𝘀𝘁-𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗱𝘂𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻, students assemble their footage into a final, polished cut. 𝗔 𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘁𝗹𝗲 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗦𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗼𝗹 𝗦𝗵𝗼𝗿𝘁 𝗦𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁: the workshops are recommended for first-year secondary school students, with a maximum capacity of 30 participants per school. These workshops are offered entirely free of charge.
The program is scheduled to run from November 2nd until May 7th, meeting once a week over a 22-week period for two lesson hours per session. To make this as convenient as possible, schools may choose whichever day of the week best suits their schedule for us to host the workshops.
