The Professionals win prizemoney based on their 54-hole individual scratch stableford score, and on the two-ball best-hall score recorded by your team. What this means is that your Pro will be relying upon you to contribute to his winning money. Imagine playing with a Professional event for not one day, but all three days. You will play off the same tees as the pros. You will play a championship c

ourse each day, set up for tournament play and you will tee-it-up each day knowing that that you are helping your professional playing partner win prizemoney. All players will compete on the same course each day with a morning and afternoon shot-gun start each day, and at the end of the second day there will be a seeded draw. The leading professionals and their teams will be seeded to play in the afternoon on Day 3, and the remaining teams and ALPG professionals will play in the morning.

A rogue, a champion, and a contributor to the peace and the lifestyle that we are privileged to enjoy today, my Grandfather, William Cookson landed on Gallipoli 108 years ago today.
A signalman, he went to war as a Corporal, and came out as a Lance Corporal or a Private (yes, demoted) because of some involvement with pornographic photos in France (think of some 1915 postcards of women in bloomers with their bo***es showing). Still a legend in my mind, and someone that I never really got to know (taken away far too young).
William Cookson (I have been reliably informed) was one of the last people off the Gallipoli beach, and today I think about him, and every person who has helped make our lives far safer and better.

2020 Meriton Sydney Invitational - Cancelled
And let's hope that the world (and in particular, we in Australia) find a cure for COVID19 and we can organise and run The Meriton in 2021.
Any updates on a 2021 event will be posted on the Sydney Invitational Tournament, as well as on the tournament Facebook (here).
Any event next year will not take place until the borders are fully open, and the Australia Government (Federal and State) deems that events such as The Meriton may be held with zero risk.
Our best wishes and thoughts go to everyone during these challenging times.

Hope everybody is in good health.
Nothing too much to update regards the 2020/21 Meriton golf event. It is still postponed, and to run this year (or next) it requires the following:
* Relaxing of the movement of persons across borders
* Relaxing of the number of players per group for golf (to 4 players)
* The opening of clubhouses to allow F&B and presentations
So we are a ways off that all happening.
When it does we have to determine if, when, where and how the Meriton Events are conducted.
It may continue as a 4 person team event with one pro and three amateur format, played over 3 days for $130,000
Alternatively, it may be run as 5 one-day pro-ams held across NSW and Qld for $25,000 each (with guaranteed prizemoney for every pro playing).
Various options are being considered.

2020 Meriton Sydney Invitational
With the uncertainty of the Corona Virus, the dates for the 2020 Meriton Sydney Invitational will not be available at this point of time.
Exact details (dates and venues) will not be confirmed until June at the earliest, and only after consultation with our Major Sponsor, and the PGA, PGA Tour and ALPG who will all be reorganising their tournament schedules.
All efforts will be made to organise dates that allows PGA, ALPG professionals, and amateurs to play in the Meriton event that will be a 2-day event this year.

Pleased to announce that the 2020 Meriton Sydney Invitational will be held in September or October this year.
Exact details (dates and venues) will be confirmed in the next few days, but I can confirm some details now.

This year’s prizemoney will be $125,000, with the same format, involving PGA, ALPG professionals, and amateurs.

The event will be a 2-day event (not 3 days).

Great news is that this year’s event will focus on raising much needed money for the Bushfire Relief.

Another Meriton done and dusted !!
What a week. Perfect weather !!
All scores are available for viewing on the results page of The Sydney Invitational. The team scores will be finalised Sunday evening and players have until 5pm Monday to notify John Small of any score queries before the Team results are finalised and prizemoney calculated and paid Tuesday 28th & Wednesday 29th
