PUT YOUR SKATES on for the up coming EASTER WEEKEND as looks like it will be a cracker with such an amazing array of things to do around the valley.

If you aren't heading up to the Blues Fest (with your gum boots and umbrellas) there is still plenty of cultural action happening that you don't won't to miss out on here in a magnificent valley.

Not to be missed is the annul Maclean Highland Gathering, with tartan skirts swirling, cabers flying and the squeezing of the pipes to clear the air of any evil spirits.

As we speak Maclean CBD is being tarted up and having a makeover so that the town is sparkle larkle for next weekend.

Pot holes are being filled, the paint is drying and the haggis is cooking along with the malt whiskey in the cupboard is chafing at the bit to be opened.

The new look Yamba Simply Hand Made Market is on at the Angourie Rd Indoor Sports Stadium while the Woombah Market is on in the nature reserve alongside the Woombah RFS She

We have two major art launches at the Ulmarra Gallery and Yamba Museum both on Saturday afternoon from 5pm.

There are lots of places to discover in nature, lots of brilliant historical reveals in our museums and many great venues to grab a feed, have a taste of local brews and listen to lots of live music.

To find out more head to www.myclarencevalley.com or look for the plunge arts & culture festival program book in all your favourite outlets.

BOUQUETS or THUMBS DOWN for our tourism industry?

Clarence Valley Council are looking for feedback on tourism in our area and have an online survey they would like you to fill out.

Writing about it on Facebook achieves nothing, so if you have something to say, have a lived experience or an opinion this is where you say it, in this survey, where it does matter and it will be collated.

Here are some talking points you may like to consider:

Should Council:
- cap Air BnB and Short Term Stays to 90 days?
- increase $$$$$ for tourism marketing?
- invest more $$$$$ in festival partnerships?
- ban freedom campers?
- charge a tourism bed tax
- have paid parking in Yamba?
- employ more rangers?
- invest $$$$ into a cycle way from Yamba, Maclean and Grafton?
- upgrade Ferry Park Maclean tourism hub?
- increase $$$$ investments into signature events?

Let's hear your thoughts on tourism and fill out the survey now. Its important we hear from you.

We are pleased to announce that the Industry Engagement team at Clarence Valley Council is currently working on a new Clarence Valley Destination Management Plan (DMP) that will assist in shaping the future of our region as a thriving tourism destination. We are

FROM the TASTE BUDS of the GODS:

The origins of the Pasteis de Nata better known as a Portuguese Custard Tart are steeped in sweet religious traditions.

Back in the day, (18th Century to be exact) these tarts were considered to be a sacred and spiritual delicacy created by Catholic monks in the Jeronimos Monastery, which is now a UNESCO World Heritage site.

Convents had an abundance of eggs and it was a common practice to make pastries and to use the eggs to starch clothes.

In 1820 after the Liberal Revolution took place, religions took a back step in the Portuguese society with many monasteries and convents closing down and forcing the monks to sell their Portuguese Custard Tarts to a sugar refinery to survive financially.

The Belem Monastery closed in 1834 and the monks sold the sacred pasteis de nata recipe to the sugar refinery who then established a shop called Fabrica de Pasteis de Belem.

This same shop is operating 200 years later and is still owned by the same descendants who obtained the sacred recipe and sell 20,000 tarts a day.

Patsies de nata translates to breakfast tart and usually is accompanied with an espresso coffee.

So if you haven't got time to go to Portugal and taste these spiritual taste sensations, you better head to the Yamba Farmers and Producers Market on Wednesday and visit the stall 'Short & Sweet' and say hello to Mark and taste these very special secret recipe Portuguese Custard Tarts yourself.

I have it on good authority from a very reliable source who lived in Portugal these Portuguese Custard Tarts are the best he has ever tasted in Australia outside of Portugal.
