The heart of this all-women’s adventure is the essence of the Haenyeo: the legendary women freedivers whose lives have been shaped by the sea, and whose legacy continues to inspire generations of ocean women today.

For generations, they have supported their families and communities in Jeju through collecting shellfish, seaweed, and other marine resources, often becoming the primary breadwinners.

They represent resilience, independence, and a deep respect for the ocean. Their practices are rooted in sustainability and tradition, with knowledge passed down from mother to daughter - making them a powerful symbol of female strength and cultural heritage on Jeju Island.

The Haenyeo are working women who take immense pride in their craft and traditions. They do not commercialize their work for tourism, which means we’ll aim to connect with the magic of the Heanyeo in a different, but no less authentic, way: including exploring local markets where they sell their daily catch, visiting the Haenyeo Museum, and observing them in the water from a respectful distance.

Celebrating Natalia Molchanova during Deep Week Bali with a flower ceremony in the bay 🩵

We were lucky enough to have Alexey join us for Deep Week in Amed this year, and by a meaningful coincidence, the week fell on his mother’s birthday.

After brainstorming with Alexey and the team, we felt there could be no better way to honor Natalia’s legacy than to come together for a dive in the bay and release flowers in her memory.

It was a simple but special moment that reflected the connection, gratitude, and love for the ocean that Natalia inspired in so many of us.

Just a few snippets of the vibe at Deep Week Bali this year 🔥😮‍💨🤿

This event had not only the world’s deepest diver in the water with us, but it was packed full of little surprises to celebrate 10 years of Deep Week, including:

🪸 The installation of a coral garden in the bay
🙇‍♀️ A Deep Week themed trivia night
🌺 A celebration to honor Natalia Molchanova on her birthday, where we released flowers in the bay

All in addition to daily workshops, line-diving, sunrise yoga and sunset meditation. It was a pretty special event. If you’re keen for the next one, check out the link in our bio for upcoming Deep Weeks this year!
