I’ve been thinking all weekend about the inspiring gala dinner on Friday night.

It made me reflect on the different stages of life we move through as mothers. The nappy-changing era, the school-run years, the teenage chaos, the empty-nester chapter and everything in between.

No matter the stage, one thing is true: humans are wired for connection.

That’s one of the reasons I started BookBar Book Club. A space to connect, gather, share stories, talk about books, laugh, make new friends and feel part of something.

Props to you Steph and Motherland for creating a space for connection. 👏👏👏👏👏👏

How do you feel about
👍 or 👎 ?
I’m a traditional print sorta gal but I’m getting more into the idea of audio.
I’m home alone, the house is a mess yet and I can munch on peanut butter on toast, do the dishes and curse my family all at once. Job done. 💥💥💥

Just in case you are living under a (Aussie) rock 🤘🤔….

Let me tell you about Trent Dalton - our April BookBar author.

is one of Australia’s most beloved storytellers. 🇦🇺📚 I’d even go as far as saying he is a living literary legend. 👋👏👏

Born in Ipswich, Queensland, Dalton’s childhood was anything but ordinary. Growing up around crime, addiction and instability, he transformed those early experiences into stories filled with heart, resilience and hope.

Before becoming a bestselling novelist, Dalton worked as an award-winning journalist, telling powerful human stories across Australia. His breakthrough book, Boy Swallows Universe, captured readers around the world with its mix of grit, humour and magic (and later became a Netflix series).

Since then he has continued to captivate readers with novels including All Our Shimmering Skies, Love Stories, Lola in the Mirror, and Gravity Let Me Go. Each exploring love, survival and the extraordinary within ordinary lives.

Dalton’s writing is known for its emotional depth, poetic style, and strong sense of place, especially Brisbane and Queensland.

✨ His stories remind us that even in the darkest circumstances, hope and love can still shine through. ✨

❤️And perhaps humanity needs that more than ever atm? ❤️

Love it!

Taylor Jenkins Reid's bestselling novel, "THE SEVEN HUSBANDS OF EVELYN HUGO," is officially being adapted into a feature film by Netflix, and it is currently in active development! 🔥📖

The adaptation was announced back in 2022, and while it's moving slowly, it is being worked on.

In May 2025, the author gave a much-needed update: "Everyone is working incredibly hard to get this movie made, and everyone knows that there is a lot of pressure to get it exactly right. We're all hard at work. We're taking it very seriously, and I give Netflix so much credit because they have such an immense respect for the readership of that book. They want to make them happy."

Screenwriter and film director Maggie Betts is set to direct the movie adaptation, and she will co-write the screenplay along with Liz Tigelaar.
