Clifton Lifesaving Surf Club’s Eve Abrahams will get her first taste of international competition at the 2023 International Surf Rescue Challenge in Texas. While competing at the highest level is always a dream, the thrill of being out in the surf and the friendships made on the beach drives this talented and humble teenager.
Eve started her lifesaving career as a nipper, and the now 15-year-old has been a strong competitor in her specialised events, including the Beach Flags and the Sprints – a talent passed on from her parents who are her biggest supporters. Eve’s mother was a recipient of the Lifeguard of the Year award, and her father was a national Flags champion, and their influence has shaped this youngster’s positive outlook on life.
Although Eve enjoys the Malibu Board event, where she finished third at Nationals, her Flags and Sprint performances have shown her immense pedigree. Eve has finished first for the past three years at Western Cape Champs and replicated this remarkable feat at National Champs and Provincial Champs. Now it’s time to shine on the big stage.
We wish Eve and the South African Team all the best in their preparations for the 2023 International Surf Rescue Challenge from the 20th to 23rd September at South Padre Island, Texas, USA.

Professional triathlete and multisport coach Keegan Cooke had an exceptional Africa Champs in Egypt back in early 2022 where he picked up gold to blow his competition out of the water and play a significant role in helping Team South Africa finish first overall to be crowned African champions.
The Kings Beach Lifesaving Club representative, whose father has been involved in lifesaving for many years and encouraged him to succeed in the sport, competes in all the swimming events and the long run, which aligns perfectly with his primary sport of competing as a Triathlete.
The 26-year-old is no stranger to the rigors of high-level competition and will no doubt want to push his own limits even further as one of SA’s top competitors in his respective specialty events.
We wish Keegan and the South African Team all the best in their preparations for the 2023 International Surf Rescue Challenge, taking place from the 20th to 23rd September at South Padre Island, Texas, USA.

It'sa busy month for our SA Team. The second international competition makes waves in Texas, USA, from 20-23 September for the International Surf Rescue Challenge. Join us in celebrating our surf athletes, who will be up against the world's best lifesavers later this month.
Babette van Rooyen from Fish Hoek Surf Lifesaving Club may still be at school, but she is an Ironwoman and Craft specialist beyond her years in Lifesaving Sport. She is at ease in the Stillwater and Surf events, having already represented her province at Lifesaving Inter Provincials.
The 17-year-old started competing seven years ago, and this will be her first foray into international competition as she looks ahead to September’s Surf Rescue Challenge in Texas after a strong showing at the DHL Lifesaving South Africa National Club Champs earlier this year.
Babette finished third in Ironwomen U17, second in the U17 Board and Ski, and third in the Run Swim Run, but the young Capetonian regards her first-place finish in the Junior Double Ski with Georgia Singe as a highlight in her burgeoning career.
We wish Babette and the South African Team all the best in preparing for the 2023 International Surf Rescue Challenge from the 20th to the 23rd of September at South Padre Island, Texas, USA.
