WHAT WE CARRY FORWARD 🌊🎬

One of the best things about Surf Films is seeing how differently the same culture can be understood, lived and documented.

Sunday’s final session brought that range into one room. GromShorts gave young filmmakers a place on the big screen, while Nothing But Blue and Australian Dream took us into stories shaped by their own experiences of surfing, place and the people around it.

And sitting in the cinema were just as many perspectives. Kids watching beside parents, filmmakers beside lifelong surfers, younger generations discovering stories that others in the room may have lived through themselves.

Seeing the GromShorts winners recognised was a particularly good note to hit in the final session. Young filmmakers are already picking up cameras and adding their own voices to surf culture, while the stories that came before them continue to find new audiences.

A pretty fitting way for the final screen to fade on NISFF 2026. ❤️

A SUNDAY WELL SPENT 🌊🎬

Yesterday’s final session felt like a fitting reflection of what NISFF had become over four days: different generations, different perspectives and very different Surf Films sharing the same screen.

GromShorts opened the afternoon with work from some of our youngest filmmakers, before Australian Dream and Nothing But Blue carried the final session through two very different stories of ambition, surfing and the lives built around it.

What stayed with us was the mix in the room. Kids watching alongside lifelong surfers. Filmmakers sharing their work with the people sitting only a few rows away. Families, friends and familiar faces all experiencing the same stories together.

That sense of connection has sat at the heart of the festival all weekend, and yesterday gave us one final afternoon to enjoy it before the lights came up on NISFF 2026. ❤️

SATURDAY NIGHT, THROUGH A WIDER LENS 🌍🌊

One of the things we love most about Surf Films is how far they can take us without ever losing that familiar connection to the ocean.

Saturday evening brought stories from different corners of the world into the same room, each shaped by its own coastline, community and way of life. Different languages, landscapes and experiences, but so many shared threads in the way people find belonging, purpose and connection through surfing.

That is part of what makes an international program feel so special at NISFF. You get to see how surf culture changes from place to place, while recognising pieces of it instantly.

Where You Look / Selah Surf, ECAT, Monozukuri and Niokobokk gave us four very different perspectives, followed by conversations that brought the people and ideas behind the films a little closer.

And now, with the final session behind us, we’re taking in what has been a very full four days of Surf Films, conversations and shared moments in Noosa. ❤️

A WIDER VIEW OF SURF CULTURE 🌊🎬

Saturday widened the lens.

The afternoon belonged to Women in Surf, with stories shaped by women behind the camera, in the water and within communities that have spent years creating more room for each other. There was strength in the films, but also plenty of joy, humour, friendship and the simple pleasure of sharing waves together.

By evening, that lens stretched much further. Different coastlines, languages and cultures came onto the screen, each bringing their own relationship with surfing and the ocean.

Put those sessions together and you get a pretty good picture of why Surf Films matter. The same ocean can hold completely different experiences depending on who is telling the story and where they are standing.

And having those stories watched together in Noosa, then carried into conversations afterwards, is a big part of what NISFF is here for.

A beautiful Saturday of different voices, different places and a shared love of the water. 💙

And now, somehow, we’ve reached the final day of NISFF 2026. One last day together before the screens go dark for another year.

SURF CULTURE, IN ALL ITS FORMS 🌊🎬

Friday night was a good reminder that surf culture has never been one thing.

It lives in the friendships built around waves, the films and music that shape how surfing is remembered, the communities that grow around it, and the different ways people find meaning in the ocean over the course of a life.

That thread ran through Beehives & Bottom Turns, Finding True North and Jack Johnson SURFILMUSIC in very different ways.

Having Josh Bogle with us gave that idea particular weight. His story shows just how far the role of surfing can extend beyond the lineup, becoming part of recovery, purpose and a completely new chapter of life.

Around that, the room had everything we love about bringing Surf Films to Noosa: filmmakers and audiences sharing the same space, conversations carrying beyond the screen, and people connecting through stories that come from very different corners of surf culture.

Friday felt like a cross-section of what keeps that culture interesting, evolving and worth gathering around.

And there’s plenty more of it still to come this weekend. 🤙

FRIDAY NIGHT, UP CLOSE 🌊🎬

Friday night at The J was a reminder of how many different lives can sit inside surf culture.

Beehives & Bottom Turns, Finding True North and Jack Johnson SURFILMUSIC each brought a very different story to the screen, but together they opened up a bigger conversation around the lives, people and experiences that grow out of surf culture.

That connection between film and real life felt especially powerful with Josh Bogle in the room for Finding True North.

His story moves through devastating injury, addiction and recovery before adaptive surfing becomes part of finding purpose again. Watching that journey unfold on the big screen was one thing. Having Josh there afterwards, sharing the room and speaking directly with the audience, gave the film another dimension entirely.

And that sat alongside a night that moved through different generations and expressions of surfing, from the stories within Beehives & Bottom Turns to the intersection of filmmaking, friendship, surfing and music at the heart of Jack Johnson SURFILMUSIC.

That’s what Friday felt like. Different stories, different paths, all meeting in the same room because of a shared connection to the ocean.

A full theatre, plenty of conversation afterwards, and another reminder that at NISFF, the credits don’t always feel like the end of the story.
