Kokoda Ultra Marathon Follow in the footsteps of our heroes who fought along the Kokoda Track in this once in a lifetime ultra endurance event.

The Kokoda Ultra Marathon is a once in a lifetime event for experienced endurance runners and trekkers organised by Kokoda Spirit based in Queensland. Over the past decade, Kokoda Spirit has evolved into one of the most dynamic trekking companies. They have sharing untold adventures and once-in-a-lifetime experience with over 6000 trekkers, giving them the opportunity to go on a journey that follo

ws the spiritual footsteps of the Australian ‘Diggers’ and their Papuan brothers through the wild, mountainous frontier of Papua New Guinea’s Kokoda Track. Pay your respects to our fallen soldiers as you push yourself to your absolute limit on this unforgettable adventure. The Kokoda Ultra Marathon follows the same track walked by our heroes, covering 96kms and approximately 5800 metres of elevation gain across 3 days and 2 nights. This is an endurance event that is not suitable for novice runners or trekkers. Strict entry and participation criteria applies.

As we mourn the loss of four Australian Defence Force members Captain Daniel Lyon, Lieutenant Maxwell Nugent, Warrant Officer Class Two Joseph Laycock and Corporal Alexander Naggs.

Who were tragically killed on Friday evening in a training activity as part of Exercise Talisman Sabre 2023.

We remember and honour their service to our nation.

“They dedicated their lives to keeping us safe.
They were soldiers, sons, husbands, brothers, fathers and friends.

Today, our deepest sympathies are with the people who love them and the people that they love.”

A massive shout out to our Kokoda Spirit and Kokoda Ultra Marathon Operations Manager Noel Namura.

Thank you for organising all the logistics, food, camping gear, 3 separate camp teams in 3 separate locations, cooking gear, spotters, check points, track safety teams and for always being on call to ensure the safety of our runners, and PNG team.

Noel is the quiet achiever that gets the job done with minimum fuss in what is sometimes a very challenging environment.

Thanks mate for all that you do.

Steve Bain our race Operation and track sweeper and Byron Pritchard 40 hours 15 mins, Bugsy and Francis are now in camp.
A massive congratulations to the team for running and walking in the footsteps of heroes.
