Artists interested in embodied practice and the materiality of the body will explore interdisciplinary approaches to making using a combination of voice x movement.

This masterclass is targeted to performance artists from both the visual and performing arts, however is open to complete beginners and professional dancers alike.

Using a combination of both voice and movement, established Israeli Choreographer Ni**od Freed will work on elements of dance that include releasing and stretching, as well as increasing flexibility and strength with a series of focused exercises & guided improvisation: moving from individual practice to working with a partner, to group work.

Expect to melt in delicious movement and to be self - empowered, as you journey with creativity and joy through this workshop.

ABOUT NI**OD FREED
Ni**od Freed is an internationally acclaimed choreographer. His work is known as a fascinating fusion of artistic mediums, in his authentic movement language, with high aesthetic values that provides an exciting experience for the audience. His work also deals with dance in the public space - in urban spaces and in nature. Ni**od was living in N.Y.C for 10 years - performed with the KEI TAKEI’s Moving Earth Company & more. One of the founders of the Israeli Choreographers Association & Artistic director of various projects in Tel Aviv.
Founded his Ni**od Freed / Tami Dance Company as the winner of the Steinmetz Family Foundation grant, the Due Artist Award – Habima, The National Theater of Israel among other grants and awards.
Performances around the world, in five continents: Australia, Japan, USA, South Africa, India, China, Singapore, Europe - Germany, Poland, Crete, Italy, Croatia, Romania, Armenia, Scotland, Cyprus& more. And in Israel - the Israel Festival, and in many festivals and communities in Israel. Created for dance companies around the world- Tokyo, Johannesburg, Spain, Cyprus, Australia. Senior lecturer at the Jerusalem Academy of Music and Dance &was teaching for many years at the Seminar Hakibutzim College, Tel Aviv. Holds an MA from Columbia University, NYC

Dance offers a dialogue where we can listen and talk simultaneously with our bodies. Exploring the physics of touch, we'll connect to directions and dynamics without pre-planned steps. The class focuses on the physics of listening through the skin (or: the touch) and the fascia. It gives access to clarity spaciousness and surprise in our shared dance

My profession and passion is to dance and to share the dance with others. That’s what I do through teaching, performing, writing and organizing. In the beginning I was mainly driven by creating dance and theatre pieces, bringing improvisation on stage. A while back teaching CI has become my main field of exploration, which I began in 1995 – and now it lets me travel the whole world. Developmental movement patterns, an anatomical focus on the skeleton and the fascia system, Capoeira, Release Techniques and many kinds of sports have guided my understanding of the moving body.

ABOUT THE WORKSHOP
Gaga/dancers deepens dancers’ awareness of physical sensations, expands their palette of available movement options, enhances their ability to modulate their energy and engage their explosive power, and enriches their movement quality with a wide range of textures.

The classes are built on the same principles as Gaga/people classes but also employ the specific vocabulary and skills that are part and parcel of a dancer’s knowledge. The layering of familiar skills with Gaga tasks presents dancers with fresh challenges, and throughout the class, teachers prompt the dancers to visit more unfamiliar places and ways of moving as well, unlocking the endlessness of possibilities. Dancers are guided to connect their effort to pleasure and to discover the virtue of silliness.
Ohad Naharin's Repertory Session: This class gives dancers an opportunity to learn excerpts of Ohad Naharin’s choreographic works and to apply their training in Gaga to the repertory.

Gaga/dancers Workshops are open to professional dancers or advanced dance students ages 16+.

ABOUT GAGA
Throughout the class, participants are guided by a series of evocative instructions deployed to increase awareness of and further amplify sensation. Rather than turning from one prompt to another, information is layered, building into a multisensory, physically challenging experience. While many instructions are imbued with rich imagery, the research of Gaga is fundamentally physical, insisting on a specific process of embodiment. Inside this shared research, the improvisational nature of the exploration enables each participant’s deeply personal connection with Gaga.
