There is something about a room full of food, music and Italian pride that reminds you exactly why the Festa exists.

This past week, La Festa della Repubblica turned 80, celebrated at Club Marconi as one of the biggest dates on the Italian calendar. Michelle Loielo, founder of the Mornington Peninsula Italian Festa and Consulta for Calabresi nel Mondo, was there to celebrate with the community and connect with the people keeping these traditions alive.

The night brought together familiar faces and new friendships. Michelle was honoured to spend time with Matthew Biviano, CEO of Club Marconi, board member Dean Zonta, Joe Frasca of the Associazione di Maria SS delle Grazie e San Vittorio Martire, and Anna Simon. She also attended the annual Co.As.It. Ball and Fundraiser at The Star, a glittering night in support of the Italian community.

Every gathering like this is a reminder of what we are building towards. The Mornington Peninsula Italian Festa returns Sunday 1 November 2026 at The Village Green, Rosebud. The Peninsula’s number one celebration of Italianity. One day, one location, and a whole lot of la dolce vita.

My whole life has been living between worlds. My very Calabrian home, language, food and music vs my very Mornington Peninsula community life.

10 years ago I found a way to bring these two worlds together.

Unica has allowed me to share my heritage & life experiences with you all through food, music and storytelling.

Last year the culmination of that was to host the first ever . I had the opportunity of collaborating with so so many Italians in our community- but I will say my greatest joy was collaborating with in order to have here direct from Calabria performers and musicians to share with the entire Peninsula including local schools - Tootgarook Primary School & St Joseph’s in Sorrento- bringing to children - who in their hundreds learnt about Calabrese Instruments, Music & Danced their hearts out.

I now have the GREATEST honor in being named by my State Government of Calabria as a Consulta Dei Calabresi Nel Mondo. A title that I take with such pride, happiness and gratitude as a recognition of my love for Calabria and sharing it with the community in the most authentic and loving way.

Thank you to everyone who have supported my vision along the way - even when it was hard to see exactly where I was going. Regione Calabria
