: In just over 24 hours, drivers and teams will be arriving at Sydney Motorsport Park, setting up for unofficial practice, and getting ready for one of the great spectacles in grassroots endurance motorsport, the 2025 Viola Private Wealth Sydney 300.

With race start just over 48 hours away, here's some names, numbers, data and information to take note of, as we gear up for the 6th running of this 77-lap race.

With rain in the two-day forecast, we're interested to see if any of those existing records are matched, broken, or left in tact, but we've got our fingers crossed that neither the time-certain marker, nor the 75% race distance marker are called upon this weekend.

: The final piece of the sponsorship puzzle, for the 2025 Viola Private Wealth Sydney 300 can now be revealed.

G-LOC Brakes Australia, the latest venture for 3-time winner, Todd Herring Racing, will be the sponsor of Division E this Saturday night, when the showpiece event of the MRA season ignites, under the lights, at Sydney Motorsport Park.

Herring's venture, as the Australian importer and distributor for G-LOC, is still in its infancy, but the brand itself, based in the United States, has been around for more than half-a-century.

Their range of products is extensive, and covers everything from Karts, to the Mazda MX5, to vintage motorsport machinery, to the Porsches and Mustangs of the world, and everything in between!

Their headquarters are on the Mid-North Coast of NSW.

When you think of Division E, you think the slowest cars in the field - remembering that Divisions, in this concept of racing, are determined by lap times - but it's also been home to big winning margins, and a couple of Sydney 300 firsts.

In 2022, Troy Derwent and Oskar Butt made history, as the first Volkswagen entry to take a division win in the , and they still hold the record for the biggest winning margin (3 laps), in Division E at the Sydney 300. Only in Division A have bigger winning margins been recorded at SMP, but when it comes to outright honours, we've always had multiple cars finish on the lead lap (77).

Last year, it was a memorable night out for Nicholas and Simon Agar, in the Hyundai Veloster.

After missing out in their maiden Sydney 300 appearance in 2023, the Agar duo returned to Sydney Motorsport Park with a different car, sponsored the event (Lendrive Finance), and recorded the first Division win for a Hyundai vehicle in the history of the Sydney 300.

They finished 19th outright, after starting 51st on the grid, making up 32 positions throughout the evening.
It was just the second time, in Sydney 300 history, that a Division E entry had finished inside the outright top twenty (Butt and Derwent finished 12th in 2022).

The Agar brothers also emulated Butt and Derwent's achievement of being the fastest Division E qualifier, before later going on to record division victory.

+32 is the most number of positions gained by a Division E entry EVER in the history of the Sydney 300, and that feat was achieved by TWO entries in 2024, after Timothy Molesworth finished 2nd in Division E (a lap down on the Agar entry), 22nd outright, having started 54th earlier in the evening.

Nicholas and Simon return to the grid in 2025, but they do so in separate vehicles, with Hayden Crossland joining Simon aboard the Veloster, while Jason Walsh will team up with Nicholas, in a Hyundai i30.

With no Oskar Butt, Troy Derwent, Michael Ricketts, Josh Haynes, or Anthony Soole on the grid this year, there's every chance we'll see at least ONE, maybe two new names, on the Division E honour roll, at the end of the 2025 running of the showpiece of grassroots endurance Motorsport.

: In the history of the Viola Private Wealth Sydney 300, more cars have contested Division B than any other, including a record 19 entries in the 60-car field this time last year.

After backing the biggest division in the field 12 months ago, Mark Seguna, from MJS Electrical Products & Supplies, has extended his support of Division B, and the at large, into a second year.

Just like the Harris brothers (Exclusive Switchboards) in Division C, Seguna will be (essentially) racing to win some of his money back, as he teams up alongside Jimmy Tran (winner of this division in 2021), in a Honda Integra, that'll race within Division B this Saturday night.

MJS Electrical Products and Supplies, situated in Fairfield, in Sydneyโ€™s west, has 20 years of industry experience, is Australian owned and operated, offering everything from switchgear, to cables, lighting, circuit protection, electrical accessories, smart home and security, and much, much more, from the biggest brands in the business.

It'll be Seguna's second start in this event, while Tran is making his sixth start in the MRA showpiece at Sydney Motorsport Park... one of only FIVE drivers to have been on the grid for every edition of the thus far!

Jason and Jamie Miller return to the field in 2025... they've both achieved division podiums here individually, but now they'll have the chance to do so as a team.

A & M Racing are the defending champions in Division B, after a faultless run here in 2024, as they raced to their best ever outright finish in a Sydney 300.

Cem Yucel and Iain Salteri have enjoyed great success in this event, not only within this Division, but also in outright terms, over the last two years... they'll be looking for their third successive division podium this weekend.

: Viola Private Wealth might be the new naming rights sponsor of the Sydney 300 โ€“ the showpiece event of the 2025 Motor Racing Australia season โ€“ but, when it comes to financial supports, the team at Lendrive Finance are digging deep.

Not only did they renew their support of qualifying, with $500 going to the fastest qualifier in each division, but, for the second year in succession, theyโ€™re also going to sponsor Division A in the race itself, taking their total investment, in this signature grassroots endurance motorsport event, to $4250.

Situated in a vast array of Sydney suburbs, Lendrive Finance specialises in Car and Asset Finance, as well as Business and Personal Loans.

For more information, visit their website: http://www.lendrive.com.au/

As per the other divisions, $1000 will be awarded to the winner of Division A, while the runner-up will pocket $500, and the entry that finishes third will take home $250.

The total prize pool stands at $11,250, with confirmation of the Division B and E sponsors to follow.

In many respects, Division A is considered the outright division, and thatโ€™ll certainly be the case when it comes to setting the grid, but with wet weather in the forecast for this weekend, many are wondering if a entry from Division B, or even C, could potentially secure outright honours at Sydney Motorsport Park, and it's important to highlight that a Division C entry is yet to win a Sydney 300 outright.

It was 2022 when we saw weather play its part in this event, and while we never saw torrential rain at any stage throughout the day, conditions were inclement for much of the afternoon, into the evening, and that, combined with it being a cold day/night in July, meant that the run-off areas remained wet, and the track never fully dried out, and the race played out on damp bitumen, which favoured the all-wheel drive entries within the 43-car field.

At the forefront of that, the Division B entry of Dylan Thomas and Cody Brewczynski created history, holding off a hard charging Chris Sutton, behind the wheel of a Subaru WRX, to score Mitsubishiโ€™s first 300 win outside of Goulburn, and the only Sydney 300 to have been won (so far) by a car not in Division A.

Todd Herring Racing tightened his stranglehold of Division A in the Sydney 300 here 52 weeks ago, charging to his third outright win, and his fourth Division A triumph.

Herring has an 80% winning record here in Sydney, and has finished on the Division A podium in every Sydney 300 held thus far. No one comes close to him, and what heโ€™s achieved here over the last six years.

From stealing victory at the death in 2019, to missing qualifying in 2022, and charging through the field, to finish third, after starting 43rdโ€ฆ heโ€™s the most dominant and decorated driver in the history of this event.

However, in a Sydney 300 first, heโ€™ll be teaming up with his son Jett in 2025, and not racing in the outright division. Instead, youโ€™ll see him in Division C, sponsored by Exclusive Switchboards. Victory there, on Saturday night, would see him become just the fifth driver to win two different divisions in the Sydney 300.

It's also the first time that Herring has raced with a co-driver in the Sydney 300 since 2019.

That seismic shift means thereโ€™ll be one, or even two new names being added to the Division A honour roll come Saturday night. Then thereโ€™s Benny Tran, who could add his name to the list for the second time in three years.

For the first time since 2022, Tran, the 2023 Sydney 300 winner, will share driving duties aboard his BYP Racing Honda Integra, teaming up with Damon Ashton, whoโ€™s contesting the Sydney 300 for the first time.

Statistically, Division A is contested by less competitors/cars than any other, but itโ€™s always at the centre of much scrutiny, because of the outright fight for pole position, and race honours, especially with competitors in this division subject to a second, compulsory, 5-minute pit-stop, as per event regulations.

Because of that, and the uncertainty of if, when, or where Safety Cars will fall throughout the night, the strategic and tactical approach of Division A competitors is a fascinating element of any .

When it comes to the outright fight, Division A entries have won 4 of the 5 Sydney 300โ€™s so far.

: In 2024, the Live & Learn Group - long time supporters of Motor Racing Australia - threw their support behind Division C in the annual Sydney 300, but in 2025, they'll support Division D.

Competitors in Division D, just like those in A, B, C, and E, will duke it out for $2250 in prize money this Saturday at Sydney Motorsport Park.

The fastest qualifier will pocket $500, with thanks to Lendrive Finance, with the Live & Learn Group offering up another $1750 in prize money, which will be awarded to the three cars that finish on the podium, at the end of the 6th running of the Viola Private Wealth .

The winners will pocket $1000, while the remaining podium finishers will take home their share of $500, and $250 respectively.

Division D is an interesting one, because it's twice been won by Nissan Pulsar entries, and twice been won by combinations that have teamed up to win a different division of the Sydney 300 in their very next attempt.

Charlie Viola and Ben Hanrahan won Division D in the inaugural running of the race (2019), and then won Division C two years later, when the event returned to the track, and the calendar, following the covid-enforced hiatus in 2020.

Then, in 2022, it was Michael Ricketts and Josh Haynes Motorsport teaming up to win Division D, before returning in 2023 to conquer Division E.

Unfortunately, Matthew and Jaxon Fraser weren't able to emulate the aforementioned feat. The pair won Division D in 2023, but their step up to Division C in 2024 was unsuccessful, as they retired from the race after only 26 laps.

In Division D last year, it was Grant and Harry Inwood, the boys from Bathurst, taking home the $1000 for division honours, with a clean, trouble-free run in their Subaru WRX, as they charged home to finish 11th outright, equalling the best ever outright result for a Division D entry here in Sydney.

It was their first division win in a Sydney 300, and it was just the second for Subaru, following Chris Sutton's win in Division C, in the weather affected 2022 edition of the race.

However Saturday night plays out, we're guaranteed a completely different looking Division D podium, compared to what we saw here in 2024, as the Inwood's aren't returning to defend their title, Geoff and Daniel Tierney aren't entered either, and Ashwin Dyall and Matthew Thewlis are entered, but separately, and are listed to race in other divisions.

Thewlis is back in familiar territory, teaming up with his old mate David Bailey Motorsport for the third time in the short history of the .

They're lining up in Division E, where they've previously finished 3rd (2021), and 2nd (2023), and will be hoping that 2025 is a case of third time lucky.

Incidentally, if they're successful, it'll be Bailey's second Division E win in Sydney, six years after joining forces with Anthony Soole, in the inaugural race, which remains the only time the Sydney 300 has been run on a Sunday, and in the daylight hours.

As for Ashwin Dyall, you'll see him lining up in a Mitsubishi Evo, within Division C., as he starts his second Sydney 300 as one of twelve drivers opting to go it alone in 2025.

Motor Racing Australia is delighted to confirm that Exclusive Switchboards will be the financial backer of Division C, for next Saturday's Viola Private Wealth , at Sydney Motorsport Park.

The brand, and the people behind it, are no strangers to Grassroots Motorsport. The Harris family are regulars in the MRA paddock, and will line up for their fifth start in the this weekend.

Exclusive Switchboards provides service you can rely on, from design and manufacturing, to installation and delivery, and their headquarters can be found in Kings Park, NSW.

Division C has delivered its fair share of drama in the short history of the Sydney 300, including in 2019, when Daniel Kapetanovic and David Kruza were, at one point, in the hunt to win the race outright, before a late Safety Car stripped them of their advantage, and saw them lose the lead shortly after the restart.

To add insult to injury, they later received a 5-minute penalty, for an indiscretion on pit lane, which saw the chance of an outright podium finish go begging as well, but given the pair were on the lead lap, they ended up being classified fourth outright, and still secured Division C honours.

And, who could forget 2023, when Charlie Viola suffered a mechanical failure on the final lap of the race, and wrestled his Honda Integra to the finish line, in scenes that'll forever live in Sydney 300 folklore.

Adding to Viola's misfortune... whilst he was fighting to get his car home, he lost the lead in Division C, to our new division sponsors, who were at the helm of their Mazda RX8 on that occasion.

The 2023 result, which doubled as 5th outright, remains the best finishing result for the Harris family in the Sydney 300, who'll be lining up in a Holden Commodore for the second year in a row this coming weekend, as they look to become the first repeat winners of Division C in Sydney 300 history.

Chris Sutton's run to second outright in 2022 remains the best ever outright result for a Division C entry, while BMW is the only manufacturer to have won this Division twice, after Alex and Dieter Holzl charged to third outright here, recording their best ever Sydney 300 result, with not just a division win, but also an outright podium finish to show for their efforts, here at SMP, on May 18 last year.

: With race day now just ONE week away, let's revisit that historic night 51 weeks ago, when Herring Racing's Todd Herring secured his third outright win in Sydney... his fourth win in Division A, and his first of two outright 300 victories in 2024.

With a full field (of 60) contesting for the first time ever, there were plenty of talking points after a CRAZY 77 laps.

- 70 entries were submitted for this race, which was 11 more (18.64%) than the corresponding event in 2023.

- Following pre-event withdrawals, 62 cars arrived trackside, for unofficial practice at Sydney Motorsport Park, which was held on the Friday night.

One more withdrawal โ€“ that of Dimitri Agathos โ€“ reduced that number to 61 cars starting the official portion of the event on the Saturday morning โ€“ a 22% year-on-year increase, on the 50 entries that started the 2023 meeting.

- David Bailey Motorsport and Aaron Lloyd became the first drivers in the history of the race to be all dressed up with nowhere to go.

As the second car on the reserves list (after the Mazda MX5 of Craig Barney and Andrew McLaughlin, which was drafted into the field following the withdrawal of the FullGas Racing entry), Bailey and Lloyd needed a second withdrawal just to get invited into the show, which, of course, didnโ€™t happen.

- 60 cars started the 77-lap race โ€“ a 25% increase on the field of 48 that greeted the starter (for the 2023 Sydney 300) 308 days earlier, and a 461% increase on the field that contested the last โ€˜300โ€™ on the calendar, which was held in September of 2023.

- The field consisted of 110 drivers.
10 drivers lined up for their fifth crack at the Sydney 300, a further 14 made their fourth start, while it was a maiden Sydney 300 voyage for 35 of the drivers in โ€˜The Class of 2024โ€™.
Twenty-six drivers contested the Sydney 300 for the second time, while another 25 lined up for their third start.

- As a percentage, just 68.33% of the field saw the chequered flag โ€“ the second-smallest finishing rate here in Sydney, but, conversely, despite the high amount of attrition, 41 cars still saw the chequered flag, which is the most finishers weโ€™ve ever had in the short history of the Sydney 300.

- Todd Herring's second Sydney 300 pole position was Mazdaโ€™s TENTH in the history of the concept, which dates back to 2008.

- It was also a TENTH outright race win for Mazda, as Todd Herring won his third Sydney 300, and his fourth overall.

- Herringโ€™s second win from pole position was a fourteenth outright win for a Division A (or 1) entry (fourth in Sydney), just the sixth time a 300 had been won from pole position, and the first time pole has been converted into victory in 1099 days (also Todd Herring, in the 2021 Pitcher Partners Sydney 300).

- Herring now has FIVE podium finishes in Lendrive Finance Division A, at the Sydney 300... Saturday night was the fourth time he's won the top division.

- It was longest Sydney 300 on record, running for 2:44:37.5757, at an average speed of 109.59km/h. Only the 2022 race (108.97km/h), which went time-certain, and fell two laps shy of its scheduled distance, has run at an average speed slower than that.

- Herringโ€™s winning margin was 11.1510 seconds, which made it the third biggest (and smallest) winning margin in Sydney 300 history.

- Three different divisions featured on the outright podium for just the fourth time in the history of the concept, and itโ€™s the second time weโ€™ve witnessed that here in .

- 7 cars finished on the lead lap, which is a NEW 300 RECORD, eclipsing the previous mark of 6, which was (also) set here in 2022.

- Within that, history was made in both Divisions B & C, with three cars from each division finishing on the lead lap of the motor race.
It's the first time in Sydney 300 history that more than two cars in ANY division have finished on the lead lap, comparative to not just the outright winner, but also the respective division winners as well.

- Todd Herring remains the only driver to feature on the outright podium in Sydney more than once, with both Matthew and Aaron Giuntini (Division B, Honda Civic), and Alex and Dieter Holzl (Division C, BMW 1M), registering their first outright podium finishes, and first division wins, in the Sydney 300.

The A & M Racing Honda became the first MJS Electrical Products & Supplies Division B winner to start the race outside of the top ten (21st), while the Holzl duo won Division C from 32nd on the grid โ€“ surpassing the efforts of Brad and Will Harris in 2023, when they won Division C, and finished fifth outright, after starting in 28th.

Their respective podium finishes put them in extremely good company, as, prior to the 2024 race, only Todd Herring had made it onto the outright podium from beyond 12th on the grid (he finished 3rd, after starting 43rd, in 2022).

- Alex and Dieter Holzlโ€™s charge to third outright saw them become just the second Division C entry to stand on the outright podium in Sydney, after Chris Sutton (2022).

They also now hold the record for the smallest winning margin in Division C, in the history of the Pitcher Partners Sydney 300 (+7.2575 seconds), after holding off Adam Gosling and Brent Howard (Honda Civic Type R), who finished fourth outright.

- Speaking of Live & Learn Group Division C, Christopher Stannard and Jon Oโ€™Neill now hold their own piece of Sydney 300 history, after finishing seventh outright, in the Porsche 944 S2.

It was the best finish for a Porsche in Sydney, with Porsche now the tenth different manufacturer to score an outright top-ten finish in a Sydney 300.

For Stannard and Oโ€™Neill, their previous best finish was 12th outright, 4th in Division C, back in 2023.

- On the subject of the top ten, it featured six different manufacturers in 2024 (one shy of the record) โ€“ Mitsubishi and Honda were the best represented, with three each, while Mazda, BMW, Volkswagen, and Porsche featured just once.

- For the fourth time, just one Division A car finished inside the outright top ten. Division B was the best represented (5), just ahead of Division C (4).

- For the third time, the winner of Division D finished 11th outright. Grant and Harry Inwood equal the record set previously by Charlie Viola and Ben Hanrahan (2019, Honda Integra), and the 2023 winners, Matthew and Jaxon Fraser (Mazda MX5).

The boys from , in the Subaru WRX STI, finished just one lap down on Todd Herring.
At 76 laps, itโ€™s the most distance covered, by a Division D winner, in Sydney 300 history.

- Same can be said for Division E. What a day out it was for Nicholas and Simon Agar.
Their appearance on the grid marked the first time since 2022 that a Hyundai vehicle had contested a Sydney 300, and it was the first time a Veloster had been entered in this event.

The Agar brothers took pole in Division E (51st outright), and much like Oskar Butt and Troy Derwentโ€™s heroics in 2022, they converted that into division victory, with a very respectable 19th outright finishing position.

After Todd Herring (twice), Dylan Thomas/Cody Brewczynski (2022), and Oskar Butt/Troy Derwent, Nicholas and Simon Agarโ€™s Division E win marked the fifth time in which the fastest qualifier had gone on to take out division honours at the Sydney 300.

In doing so, the Agar duo notched up a first division podium finish, let alone win, for Hyundai, in the short history of the Sydney 300.

They completed 74 laps, which is (technically) the most ever by a Division E entry, although the Butt/Derwent VW Polo was on track to clock 75 laps in 2022, before the race went time-certain.

- The Safety Car was deployed SEVEN times in last year's race, which equalled the 2022 record.
It took control of the field for 18 of the 77 laps, and word has it, that it was running light on fuel at the end of the night.

- In terms of lap recordsโ€ฆ letโ€™s not talk about the high number of breakouts, and subsequent division changes, we saw last year, but instead acknowledge that the BMW M4, driven by Adrian Wilson, Marcus LaDelle (Ninety9Motorsport) and Anthony Soole, now holds the practice lap record at the Sydney 300 (1:38.4599), while Todd Herring went to pole position with the fastest legal qualifying lap weโ€™ve ever seen (1:38.0592), before the Mazda MX5 of Jackson Copeman and Jimmy Vernon Racing clocked the fastest lap of the race, with a 1:38.0034.

They were one of five cars under Benny Tranโ€™s 2023 race lap record, of 1:39.1220.

- Wayne Movigliatti steered his Lexus IS200 to a piece of โ€˜300โ€™ history.
Just the second Lexus to ever contest a 300 (the first time weโ€™ve seen a Lexus on the grid in Sydney), Movigliattiโ€™s Lexus was the first to ever finish a 300.
He came home in 18th outright, 6th in Division D, and that was despite copping a 1-lap penalty.

- Family/sibling entries (Herring, Giuntini, Holzl, Inwood, and Agar) won all five divisions, in a Sydney 300 first.

- Division wins for Mazda, Honda, BMW, Subaru, and Hyundai marked the second time (after 2022), in which all five divisions had been won by a different manufacturer.
In total, ten different manufacturers were represented across the five division podiums.

- Race Control issued a record SIX 5-lap penalties in 2024, including one for the defending race winner, Benny Tran (BYP Racing).

- We had NINE different race leaders in the 2024 race, and there were TEN lead changes throughout the course of the 77 laps... BOTH of which re-wrote the Sydney 300 record books.

The Volkswagen Golf of Cem Yucel and Iain Salteri led the most laps (19), while Ben Oldfield became the first Division D driver/entry to lead the Sydney 300 outright EVER (Lap 45), before later receiving a 5-lap penalty.

We've only got to wait 7 more days, to see who'll create history, and who'll rewrite it, when the 6th running of the plays out, under lights, at Sydney Motorsport Park.
