Would you like to write a letter to someone who is isolated during this time of social distancing?
While our story-telling workshops are on hold we are collaborating with our community partners to stay connected in this time of social distancing through letter writing.
If you and/or your children would like to write to one of the residents or staff at Mt St Vincent or Rubicon Grove Nursing Home or a member of the Rosebery Community House we would love to be your postal service!
SOME IDEAS FOR WRITING TO SOMEONE YOU DON’T KNOW
Greeting: Hello! It’s so nice to be writing to you ... or ... Good Morning, I hope this letter finds you well, etc.
Make it personal. It can be the little details that make a letter interesting.
Introduce yourself:
What is your life like?
What can you see out your window?
What are you looking forward to today/this week?
Do you have family close by or are they elsewhere? What has been something that you have enjoyed or are grateful for during this time social distancing?
What is something that you have missed?
What is something that you are looking
forward to once this is over?
We invite you to be creative: Include a photograph, drawing or collage.
Send your letter by July 31, 2020 to: Here We Are

LETTER WRITING GUIDELINES
1. Ensure your letter is legible and handwritten. No worries if you’re not artistic– make your letter as what you’d like to receive.
2. This is a gift! That there is no reciprocation attached is part of the beauty of your act, and it is important the recipients don’t feel burdened by being unable to respond.
6. Envelope your letters if you can! It’s so much nicer to open up an enveloped letter, don’t you think? Where possible leave your enveloped letters unsealed and unstamped and put them in a larger envelope to send to us so that we can document them before passing them on.
7.While we will be documenting your letters we would love to see photos of you writing/making your letter. Tag #herewearenwtas
8. Send us as many letters as you’d like! Keeping in mind submissions close on July 31st, 2020.
Follow us @herewearenwtas on FB and Instagram for letter writing ideas and examples.
PLEASE NOTE:
For you peace of mind please know that letters will be quarantined for the appropriate time in line with Public Health Guidelines before being passed on to recipients.
With your permission we will photograph/scan and add these letters to our Here We Are archive – telling stories of those living and connected to North West Tasmania.
It is also possible that these letters will be displayed as part of a future exhibition or event when these things are again possible.
By participating in this letter writing project you are agreeing to these terms.
ABOUT HERE WE ARE
'Here We Are' is a community based arts project that nurtures connection and celebrates local stories of those living and connected to the North West Coast of Tasmania.
It has evolved out of the successful 'Here She Is' project launched on International Women’s Day, 2019 as part of the Ten Days on the Island Festival program. This was the culmination of a year-long process of the collection and curation of stories into an exhibition that centered around a large scale artist’s map of the North West Coast. This included visual, written and audio content from five key artists and the women of the North West Coast who inspire them, as well as submissions from community members, co-curated Anne Morrison and Jessie Pangas.
More than anything this process and the overwhelming community support that the project received revealed that there is just so many more stories to tell. For the second phase of this project we propose turning 'Here She Is' into 'Here We Are'; taking the project out of the gallery and into community through tailored workshops in partnership with community organisations. This will broaden our audience and increase our community engagement to include both men and women across generations.
Here We Are is supported by the Australian Government through the Regional Art Fund and RANT Arts.
