Maiden Voyage Theatre Company (MVTC) is an independent theatre company producing work by, about, or for all. MVTC exists because opportunities for women in creative industries aren’t as common or as substantial as those available to men. But we’re not here to preach or browbeat and we don’t care to patronize or provoke; we’re too busy making theatre. We simply believe you should be the change you want to see in the world. So here we are, putting women at the forefront of everything we do, whenever we can, and having a lot of fun doing so.

About Us

MVTC exists to prioritise the roles of women working in the Australian theatre industry, both on and off the stage. We delight in carrying out a rigorous and enjoyable creative process to develop new plays by brilliant Australian playwrights of all experience levels. We want more amazing women working on amazing shows, exciting new stories on our stages, unforgettable characters beautifully performed, a chance to work with the best and brightest up-and-comers, and any opportunity we can get to engage with a brave, warm audience. And for the record, when we say “women”, we’re of course including our trans* and non-binary friends.

In 2016 our debut production BELATED premiered at The Blue Room Theatre. In 2017 ALONE OUTSIDE premiered as part of The Blue Room Theatre’s Summer Nights program of FRINGE WORLD Festival, was nominated for the Martin Sims Award for Best New WA Work, and won the ECU Performing Arts Award for Outstanding Performance (Jo Morris). Also in 2017, our show TOAST premiered at The Blue Room Theatre and won Best Production and Best Performance (Amy Mathews) at the 2017 The Blue Room Theatre Awards, and was nominated in five other categories. TOAST was also a finalist for the Performing Arts WA Award for Best Independent Production and Best New Work.

MVTC is an independent theatre company established in Perth, Western Australia in 2016 by award-winning playwright and producer Liz Newell. We’re not here to preach or browbeat and we don’t care to patronize or provoke; we’re too busy making theatre. We love it with all our heart, we just know it isn’t perfect, and we believe in being the change you want to see in the world. So here we are. We saved you a seat.
