Incident Date: Saturday, 17th May 2025
Incident Location – Power Fit Gym, 14/16 Commodore Drive Rockingham WA 6168
CAPO WA acknowledges that an incident occurred during weigh-ins on Saturday 17th May 2025 at Power Fit Gym, involving a verbal and physical altercation.
While the conflict stemmed from a personal matter between individuals, and occurred outside formal competition hours, it took place during an official weigh-in and in a setting affiliated with our federation.
We recognise that the nature of the altercation may warrant attention beyond the scope of sporting governance, and should any party choose to escalate this through formal legal or police channels, CAPO WA will fully cooperate as required.
We want to make it clear that the actions involved were not representative of CAPO’s values or expectations of conduct.
We take all matters relating to member safety and conduct seriously.
Following a thorough review, and in line with our federations code of conduct the following actions have been taken:
• The individual involved; Sam Murphy is no longer the WA State Representative for CAPO.
• Sam Murphy has also been suspended from attending or participating at CAPO WA events for a period of six (6) months.
• The venue where the incident took place will no longer be eligible to host CAPO-sanctioned competitions.
We recognise the emotional impact this has had on lifters, volunteers, and the wider community.
We also acknowledge that much of what has transpired in the days since the incident has been fuelled by speculation, private messaging, and public commentary. While we respect the community’s right to voice concerns, the spread of incomplete or misleading information has added further harm and confusion to an already regrettable situation. We encourage all members to uphold the same respect and fairness online that we strive for on the platform.
CAPO remains committed to fostering a respectful, inclusive, and safe environment for all competitors, coaches, families, and spectators.
As CAPO has taken all necessary internal actions, the matter is now considered a personal issue between the individuals involved and no longer pertains to CAPO operations.
We hope that moving forward, our community continues to grow in strength and trust as we rebuild together.
