Live & Local 2026 📚

After the success of Live & Local, Sydney Writers' Festival returns to Mudgee again this year to bring the best of the Festival direct to you. We're not going to lie, this program is definitely one of the best we've seen!

One of Australia’s most loved forums for literature, ideas and storytelling, Sydney Writers’ Festival will live-stream its headline events from Sydney to Kildallon Education Centre (70 Court Street, Mudgee) from Thursday 21 May to Sunday 24 May.

Prepare to be invigorated and engaged by conversations, debates and discussions featuring some of the world’s finest writers and thinkers.

Audiences can also participate in live Q&A sessions at each event, sending questions straight to the Sydney stage.

Join us for Live & Local 2026 streamed live by Sydney Writers’ Festival and delivered locally to Mudgee, with the assistance of volunteers from Mudgee Readers' Festival.

Stay tuned — we'll share the program with you shortly! 🫣

Donations today will be DOUBLED! 🙏🏼😱 📚

This is it! AusArt Day and our very own Booktober Matching Day have arrived! We’ve kicked off super well, but I wanted to just send you a little reminder...

For TODAY ONLY, every donation made to our Booktober fundraiser will be matched, dollar for dollar, thanks to the generosity of some very special WestWords supporters. That means every $10 becomes $20, every $50 becomes $100 - double the story, double the impact.

Today is your chance to make your reading and fundraising go twice as far.

We’re reading for Mudgee kids this October, and raising money to bring authors for school visits and to help our young readers and writers publish their own books!

Head to booktober’s website or follow the link in our bio to donate or learn more!

Sign up for now! We’re excited to raise funds to help bring authors to Mudgee public schools 👏🏻 join via the link in our bio and help raise funds for Mudgee and Western Sydney!

Who's ready for Booktober? 📖

The latest Australia Readers Report shows that young people — especially boys — are reading less than ever. Many don’t even have a regular reading rhythm or a single positive memory of reading.

That’s why MRF is proud to support Booktober 2025. This isn’t just about books on shelves; it’s about raising funds to bring professional writers into Mudgee schools in 2026, delivering creative writing workshops and publishing student work so our kids can see their own stories in print.

Head to booktober.org.au to sign up as a Bookworm. Read what you love this October, raise what you can, and join our “Mudgee Readers” team! It's not just for kids – everyone can read, raise money, and help our community.

Every page you turn helps create brighter futures for Mudgee kids!

What an unforgettable evening at Together Out West! We shared food, song and laughter with Jelena Curic, Kathie Elliott-Scott, Michelle Hamadache, J. Marahuyo and Pete Shmigel, whose stories moved us from love and heritage to resilience, care and rediscovering the soul’s song. Huge thanks to Relish Catering for the delicious dinner, Gooree Park for the wine and WestWords for bringing this night to life with us. 🥂

What a night! Our Poetry Slam at Roth’s Wine Bar was brimming with talent, from fearless locals to seasoned professionals. It was a really fun way to open the festival.

A huge thanks to WestWords and J. Marahuyo for sponsoring the winner’s mentorship.

Congratulations to Manjot Kaur, whose powerful poem on the environment took out first place, and to Monica Lee, our local runner-up! And to every poet who got up and performed in front of a crowd of 90+ (you’ll never look at Putin the same way again)

An extra special thank you to Rob Waters, Australian Poetry Slam champion, who proved to be the best host we could have ever imagined.

And finally: thank you to everyone who came along and filled the room with so much energy and support 💛
