The Kildallon Spring Fair is happening this Saturday morning (19 September) in Mudgee! There will be music, dancing, face painting, prizes, a BBQ, a coffee cart, a spring art exhibition, treasure hunts, a pirate-themed photo booth, and more.

Mudgee Readers' Festival is a member of Mudgee Arts Council, and we're excited to be running this year's cake stall!

It's a great day of family fun and entertainment celebrating all the creative and educational activities that happen around Kildallon! 10am–1pm Saturday, 19 September at the Kildallon Education Centre and Country Universities Centre at 70 Court Street (the old TAFE).

What if the thing holding your writing back isn’t a lack of ideas, but fear?

Award-winning author Hayley Scrivenor (Dirt Town, Girl Falling) is leading Becoming the Writer You Are, an intimate two-hour workshop for writers at any stage: whether you’re halfway through a novel, staring at a blank page or wondering if you’re even a writer at all.

Through writing exercises, readings and guided discussion, Hayley will explore self-doubt, creativity, the relationship between art & fear, and how to find your way back to a project when inspiration has gone missing.

You’ll also be encouraged to write towards your “personal emergency”— the thing you need to write.

Debra Adelaide has written an exquisitely beautiful novel about the death of her friend, Gail Jones travelled to the heart of Australia to understand the collective grief over a missing woman and Carlie Daley turned to poetry to help her deal with the repercussions of personal tragedy. A huge thank you to Mid-Western Regional Council Library and The Book Nest Mudgee or everything they do to support the Mudgee Readers’ Festival!

So much of what makes a festival work happens quietly behind the scenes. The little jobs, the extra hours, the setting up and packing down, the answering of questions, the moving of chairs, the selling of books, the (countless) emails and all the things that most people never see ...

Last year, more than 1,000 people came through the library and attended festival events, and that simply wouldn’t be possible without the incredible support of our local library team.

And The Book Nest goes above and beyond every year, opening additional hours across the festival weekend and setting up a mobile bookstore so our authors’ books are right there for readers to discover and take home.

These two organisations play a pivotal role in keeping the festival alive, and we’re incredibly grateful for everything they do — both the big things and all those little jobs that make the whole thing possible.

Thank you both for backing books, readers, authors & this literary festival year after year. ❤️📚
