There’s something pretty special about seeing a reader meet the author whose words they’ve connected with ... & then getting a book signed to take home!

For regional readers, these moments can feel even more meaningful. We don’t always have the opportunity to meet our favourite authors in person & for authors, travelling to regional communities means getting to meet readers they might otherwise never have the chance to see.

These are the little moments that make MRF so special ...

Thank you to every author who made the journey, and every reader who came along, bought a book, asked a question, had a chat and waited patiently for that signature 📚❤️

Here are some images from our 2025 & 2026 festival!

What if the thing holding your writing back isn’t a lack of ideas, but fear?

Award-winning author Hayley Scrivenor (Dirt Town, Girl Falling) is leading Becoming the Writer You Are, an intimate two-hour workshop for writers at any stage: whether you’re halfway through a novel, staring at a blank page or wondering if you’re even a writer at all.

Through writing exercises, readings and guided discussion, Hayley will explore self-doubt, creativity, the relationship between art & fear, and how to find your way back to a project when inspiration has gone missing.

You’ll also be encouraged to write towards your “personal emergency”— the thing you need to write.

📍 Kildallon Education Centre, Mudgee
📅 Thursday 10 September
⏰ 4–6pm
🎟️ $25
👀 Capacity: just 10 writers

Ten people. Two hours. $25 dollars.

If you’ve been waiting for a sign to take your writing seriously, this might be it! And with only 10 places, we wouldn’t wait too long.

Bookings available: mudgeereaders.com / link in bio

This workshop is part of the Kildallon Events Calendar funded by the NSW Government through EnergyCo’s Community and Employment Benefit Program.

A little look at this year's Mudgee Readers’ Festival 📸

A huge thank you to our wonderful festival photographer, Amber Hooper, for capturing so many of the moments that made this year’s festival so special.

The authors, the readers, the conversations, the laughs, the chaos behind the scenes: Amber somehow managed to be everywhere!

We’ve got plenty more photos to share over the coming days, but for now, here’s a little taste of MRF 2026 ❤️

What does your library mean to you?

State Library of NSW has launched an online portal and is inviting everyone to share their personal stories about the libraries that have shaped them. It could be your local library, a street library, a grand institution, a neighbourʼs bookshelf or even a library of the imagination.

Join contributors from across the state (and beyond) to celebrate the power of libraries.

Share your story today! sl.nsw.gov.au/shareyourstory

& head along to our ‘The Library That Made Me’ session this Sunday. It’s a free event but bookings are essential — head to our website to get your tickets 🎟️

A huge thank you to Mid-Western Regional Council Library and The Book Nest Mudgee or everything they do to support the Mudgee Readers’ Festival!

So much of what makes a festival work happens quietly behind the scenes. The little jobs, the extra hours, the setting up and packing down, the answering of questions, the moving of chairs, the selling of books, the (countless) emails and all the things that most people never see ...

Last year, more than 1,000 people came through the library and attended festival events, and that simply wouldn’t be possible without the incredible support of our local library team.

And The Book Nest goes above and beyond every year, opening additional hours across the festival weekend and setting up a mobile bookstore so our authors’ books are right there for readers to discover and take home.

These two organisations play a pivotal role in keeping the festival alive, and we’re incredibly grateful for everything they do — both the big things and all those little jobs that make the whole thing possible.

Thank you both for backing books, readers, authors & this literary festival year after year. ❤️📚
