Sack Shack

Sack Shack Formerly called Book Shack. Relocated from Brisbane to Mount Gambier 2024 Book Shack was "Bookstore with a Difference...Making a Difference".

Eco-friendly small business, offering a unique array of items crafted by myself or imported from talented fairtrade artisans with a focus on handmade utilising recycled materials. New festival stall name is now "SackShack". After a brief hiatus from festivals/markets due Covd19 closing them down, am happy to say I am back on the road a few times a year at various festivals with my

ll. Sharon Hazel, owner was living her dream, and opened Book Shack in March 2009. We originally stocked a vast array of good quality secondhand books plus a unique range of Fairtrade/Recycled bags, gifts, book accessories. The Storefront traded in Sandgate and Deagon but unfortunately had to close in August 2019, alas a sign of the times. Sharon also travelled to many festivals with her Book Shack Fairtrade/Recycled stall - items crafted from recycled sacks, fabrics, billboard signs, chicken feed sacks. Some imported from Fairtrade Organisations, others handcrafted by Sharon or Local artisans. But now my stall is called "Sack Shack" which is more relevant to the products I onsell. Enquiries can be made to [email protected] or call 0409349354.

I have just received new recycled bag stock including one of my Top sellers and a Favourite bag of mine. 🤩 “Elly” design, a crossbody messenger bag which can be worn on your back, under arm or swung around to the front to access items without needing to take it off. 😁 This bag can hold alot, like books, IPad, Water bottle, cameras, etc. $58.00. I will be treating myself and using one of these bags on my upcoming holiday.
I have been importing bags from my good friend Yek Hong and her Talented Fairtrade artisans from Peace Handicrafts, Cambodia since 2010. They are beautifully handcrafted from recycled cement sacks and fully lined. Cement, Rice and Fish Feed sacks in Cambodia, Vietnam and Thailand are very strong and durable. Each one is an individual. I have just listed them on my Etsy online store “thesackshack”. More bags will be listed this week.

I am throughly enjoying myself working in my Sack Shack recycled stall at Cobargo Folk Festival. I have been allocated a great location, right in the midst of festival, opposite Biamanga stage, wonderful live music, great community atmosphere and camping in my campervan behind. I love a good chat and meeting lovely people interested in the crafting of the various handmade recycled items and purchasing some. 😁💜. Even have time for reading. I love a good folk festival - Life is good.🌿😄📚

New stock of the very popular Bristlebrush birds/animals just arrived for my
Sack Shack stall and Etsy online shop. Not very big, normally 7-8cm, some of the medium 14cm (like rabbit). But oh sooo cute. 💞 I currently have Blue Wren males and females, kookaburra, rooster, hen, chick, hedgehog (small), echidna (medium & baby), koala, rabbits, frog pair on swing, single frog on a swing, penguin and now small wombat. 😁

What are they made of?

The fibres used in the manufacture of Bristlebrush Designs are made from the Buri Palm, which is native to Asia and is also known as the Corypha Elata. They are designed and developed in Australia, handcrafted in the Philippines.

To enable the Palm Fibre to be used in the manufacture of the animals, it is cut, soaked, bleached, dried, cut into bundles, wired into Cylinders (Like a bottle Brush) then cut by hand to shape by our talented artisans who take great care to make sure each item is precise and accurate. Water based paints.

This Figurines & Knick Knacks item is sold by TheSackShack. Ships from Australia. Listed on Jan 12, 2026
