Lá Fhéile Pádraig sons daoibh ☘️Happy St Patrick’s Day!

In her first St. Patrick’s Day message, President Catherine Connolly referenced the life of Saint Patrick, saying his story reflects the resilience of migrants and reminds people of the need for solidarity, justice, and compassion toward those affected by war, trafficking, and displacement 💚

Honoured to attend the St Patrick’s Day reception at Arts Centre Melbourne, hosted by Ireland’s Consul General in Melbourne, Marie-Claire Hughes.

The evening marked the official visit of Minister for Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science, James Lawless TD, who opened Ireland’s new Consulate General in Melbourne earlier this week.

In his speech, Minister Lawless mentioned that he is from Kildare and has a special affinity with Brigid groups - something we at BrigidFest were delighted to hear.

It was especially lovely to see Ambassador Fiona Flood again, who was our wonderful guest speaker at BrigidFest earlier this year, and to catch up with our patron, The Hon Gabrielle Williams MP.

It was wonderful to see so many members of the Irish community, parliamentarians, commerce, and cultural organisations celebrating the strong connections between Ireland and Australia.

BrigidFest was delighted to be part of the Irish diaspora community represented on the night. ☘️🇮🇪💚

Go raibh míle maith agat to everyone who made BrigidFest 2026 such an outstanding success, and to all who shared in the day with us.

We were honoured to welcome our guest speaker, the recently appointed Irish Ambassador to Australia, Her Excellency Fiona Flood, whose address offered a powerful and personal reflection on women’s lives, leadership, and progress across Ireland and Australia.

Thank you to Gabrielle Williams MP for such a generous introduction, and to Marie Claire Hughes, whom we were delighted to formally welcome to Melbourne at BrigidFest, along with Celtic Club Melbourne President Ronan McDonald, for their valued contributions.

We were privileged to have Brigidine Asylum Seekers Project represented by Sr Brigid Arthur and Libby Saunders, and to welcome Gabrielle Connellan, John Mullahy MP and Nathan Lambert MP in attendance.

As one guest beautifully shared:
“The Ambassador was a wonderful and thought-provoking speaker and so approachable. The buzz and camaraderie amongst the guests were also palpable.”

It was a day defined by strength, kindness, insight, and community - BrigidFest at its very best. 💚🤍💜

In five minutes, at 12 noon, we will pause for peace.

Wherever you are, we invite you to stop for one minute in honour of St Brigid, whose life reminds us of compassion, courage, and care for one another.

Beannachtaí na Féile Bríde!
Sunday 1 February | 12 noon

St Brigid inspires the work we do and the values we hold.
Her legacy of peace, compassion, and care for others continues to guide us, and there is much we can still learn from her today.

A global Pause for Peace was launched in Ireland in 2023 by Into Kildare and Solas Bhride Centre & Hermitages CLG to mark St Brigid’s Day becoming a national public holiday.

Wherever you are, we invite you to pause with us for a moment of reflection and solidarity at 12 noon today.
