Great news! The public boat ramp at Daly River is now open! Just in time for the Barra Nationals 🎣

Last night at the Darwin Game Fishing Club monthly catch up, Minister for Infrastructure Bill Yan MLA - Member for Namatjira updated members present (including the AFANT team) that the public boat ramp at Wooliana is expected to open today from midday.

This is great news, not only for the Barra Nationals but also for everyone making plans for upcoming long weekend.

Please note that the region is still in the middle of recovery from very significant flood damage. This means that accommodation and services are limited compared to normal. It is also important to recognise that as we celebrate access to the river returning, this is tempered by the fact that many local people have still not been able to return home.

Please take care on the river, as much has changed after the floods, with shallow sandbars and snags in new places. We encourage all visitors to be as safe as possible and to slow down as you learn about the new river conditions.

Fishing the Daly River is made possible thanks to an agreement between Traditional Owners and the Northern Territory Government. The official Fishing the Daly River Guide states:

🎣 June Monthly Outing | Biggest Barra

There’s been plenty of barra talk around town lately, with more fish being released into Top End waterways and a renewed focus on getting people fishing close to home.

So really, what better excuse do you need?

Our June Monthly Outing is all about Barramundi, and there’s still time to register and get amongst it.

Running from 1 June to 30 June, this month’s challenge is based on the combined length of your best five barra, so make every fish count.

It’s also your final chance to secure Annual Points, with your best five fish counting toward your tally, limited to a maximum of two fish per species.

Boat, bank, local creek, lagoon or wherever you usually chase them — get out there, have a crack and finish the season strong.

Once registered, check your email for the item you’ll need to pack in your tacklebox and photograph with your catch.
