Hi Team Northbank,
After much consideration, we’ve made the difficult decision to cancel the 2025 SA Northbank Fishing Competition.
This decision wasn’t made lightly. As many of you are aware, South Australia is currently experiencing a significant algal bloom outbreak that’s impacting our marine environment -particularly across Adelaide metro waters. Unfortunately, the bloom is beginning to move up the Spencer Gulf, posing a growing risk to the Copper Coast region.
We’ve consulted with marine experts and industry representatives, and ultimately, the health of our waters, safety of our community, and long-term sustainability of our events must come first. Acting early has allowed us to make a considered and responsible call. We are keeping a positive attitude that the bloom dissipates and has little to no effect on that area over the coming months.
We understand how much this event means to the Northbank community - it’s a highlight of the year where we come together to celebrate our shared passion for boating and fishing. While we’ll miss it this year, we’re already looking ahead and are committed to making the 2026 event a big one!
For those of you who have already made plans for the long weekend, we still encourage you to enjoy the stunning Wallaroo region and support the local community.
In the meantime, if you're keen for a dose of friendly competition, the Victorian Northbank Fishing Competition is heading into its second year and will be held in Queenscliff on 7–8 November. We’re currently exploring subsidy options for SA entrants - if you're interested, please reach out to me directly at [email protected].
We’re also planning a Northbank Factory Open Day later this year, which will give us all a chance to reconnect in person. More details on that will follow soon.
Thank you, as always, for your ongoing support and enthusiasm for Northbank. We’re grateful to have such a passionate and loyal community, and we’re counting down to 2026.
For all those who have already registered and paid for the competition - we will be in touch individually.
Cheers,
Andrew Harris
