Kiama NSW

2022 FOLK by the SEA is an intimate event featuring the sounds of folk, world, roots, Celtic, bluegrass and gypsy music over 3 days in the picturesque seaside town of Kiama, famous for its blowhole. This event replaces Folk in the Foothills which was held at the Jamberoo Valley Lodge. The event is a combination of ticket only entry (Friday and Saturday) featuring artists from around Australia and

the Illawarra. The festival is presented by volunteers from the Illawarra Folk Club Inc. who present regular folk music concerts in the Illawarra region and the world famous Illawarra Folk Festival.

It is with great regret that we announce the annual Kiama Folk Festival, Folk by the Sea, will not be continuing.

This decision was not an easy one, but it has become necessary, primarily due to the key challenge of attracting enough patrons from outside the area.

The organising Illawarra Folk Club sub- committee believes that the patronage has declined as a result of Kiama Council's decision not to allow camping over the past few Festivals.

The club acknowledges the incredible work of all the volunteers and committee members that have supported this festival over the past 13 years.

We are hoping that the Illawarra Folk Club can maintain a footprint In the Kiama municipality. Stay tuned!

Congratulations Karen Law 👏👏👏

I have some incredible news. I have somehow found myself being included on a list of five finalists for "Solo Artist of the Year" at this year's Australian Folk Music Awards. I'm just letting that sink in for a while. And I'm sharing my absolute joy and disbelief rolled into one with all of you who have been following my music for so long. This has been a wonderful year for me; I released 'Lifeline', played shows all over South East Queensland (my own and contributed to other peoples) and I hosted our monthly Folk Club where I live in Nambour. The Australian Folk community is an incredible thing and I'm so grateful to be a part of it. The winners of all the awards will be announced on Wednesday 22nd October at the Brunswick Ballroom in Melbourne. Many friends are also up for awards. But perhaps the best news of all (that I've saved until last) is that my daughters' duo, North and Elsewhere, is a finalist for the Youth Artist of the Year award. Happy days!
