Edit: ALL our Gawler-based Markets our are now cancelled indefinitely, Mother's Day included.
Although short lived, due to an out-of-the-blue email from the lovely people at Gawler Council stating that due to development changes, they will no longer be allowing Markets at Evanston Gardens Community Centre (despite hosting a family day of their own, at the Venue recently, with the same setup), indefinitely.
We will jump through the hoops of new paperwork to continue with our Mother’s Day Market, May 2nd.
But, our pre-planned new season will no longer be going ahead.
This was uncommunicated changes to the Evanston Gardens Progress Association, additionally, the body in charge of the Venue Hire and usage… And who have ultimately lost hire revenue for hosting the Markets.
Previously, I would fight back, as the Council does its best to make sure that the Council is the monopoly, but I’m a rate payer living in Evanston Gardens, that sees zero spent or put into the area as we don’t host a Tennis Club that Councillors and influential residents play at, and boast putrid Roads that their staff likely don’t drive. What’s the point!?
We did our best to provide an affordable, accessible Market for all ages, and all small businesses, that isn’t poorly located in the Main Street with limited parking, safely located for Children, not driven by council affiliates for an ego stroke.
After May 2nd, that’s it from us for events officially in Gawler.
Some will be happy, and that’s fine, some won’t.
Cheers Gawler Council…
