One man, alone, on foot, across the Simpson Desert

In June/July 2015 I will attempt to walk solo, unsupported across the Simpson Desert. This will be a west to east crossing, departing Old Andado station in the Northern Territory, traversing the geographical centre of the desert finishing in the outback town of Birdsville, Queensland. This will be a journey of over four hundred kilometers, crossi

ng approximately eleven hundred sand dunes, I will haul all of my own water and provisions in a purpose build cart and should take about twenty days to complete my journey. Apart from my own personal physical and mental challenges, I shall be doing this trip to raise awareness and funds for Cancer Research. Follow my progress as I plan, prepare and ultimately set out on this challenging adventure.

Some pics of what has to be one of the most memorable events of my life. Not only was the Simpson Desert Bike Challenge an amazing adventure in one of the most ruggedly beautiful places on the planet, the journey there and back turned out to be quite a challenge in itself. Thanks to the kindness of my supporters I managed to raise over $1200.00, with $26000.00 in total this year being raised by all riders and support crew. If you are looking for the challenge of your life, get a bike, a support crew and start training now! Entries for 2018 open March 1st.

Due to a niggling injury I have been unable to walk the Simpson again this year as planned. However, I am presently heading towards The western fringe of the Simpson where I will be joining 11 other riders who will be taking part in this years Simpson Desert Bike Challenge. We will be riding 590 kms from Purnie Bore, South Australia across the Simpson Desert to Birdsville, Queensland, over 5 days to help raise funds for Royal Flying Doctor Service of Australia. Wish me luck, more posts to follow...
