Our fourth speaker is Anjali Sharma. Get your tickets to the 2024 Dirrum Festival at the link in our bio.

Anjali Sharma (she/her) is 20 years old. At 16, she became the lead litigant of Sharma vs Environment Minister, a class action legal case which argued that the Environment Minister owes all young people a duty of care to protect them from the impacts of climate change. In 2021, she was successful, but following an appeal from the Minister, this ruling was overturned. However, Anjali continued the campaign, now calling to have this duty legislated through Federal Parliament. Anjali aims to raise awareness about the disproportionate impacts of climate change, particularly towards young people and people of colour.

ABOUT | #dirrumfestival

The Dirrum Festival reflects a culture of engagement rather than weekend or island of isolated activity. And out of this engagement and history of service to the common good, young leaders speak alongside inspirational speakers from around the world.

Every new student organising committee inherits this challenge: Recognise reality, see possibilities; Inspire intelligence, effective engagement; Lead for a greater and common good.

Whilst the annual theme for the Dirrum Festival is ‘for the common good’, each year has its own focus. In 2019 the focus for #dirrumfestivalCBR was Faces of Change.

Two festivals will be held in 2020 - #dirrumfestivalCBR, and #dirrumfestivalBNE. Connect with @dirrumfestival online to stay up-to-date with #dirrumfestival 2020 news.
