The official unveiling of the " Burnett River Project" - A Textile Art quilt featuring the collaborative work of 25 Textile artists ( Textile Art Group) and members of Bundaberg Quilters Inc.

32 - 10"inch block tiles depict the Burnett River, includes as many features as possible to highlight the diversity of this river system, both of nature & man made.
The completed quilt measures 1.1M X 2.2M

Two separate displays over two levels showcased an amazing display of Textile Art, made by our art group, with a second display of 20 quilts made by our BQI members for our biennial quilt exhibition held in August 2025.

Our quilt exhibition made such an impression that we were invited to exhibit a selection of quilts at the Yokohama Quilt Festival in Japan- November 13th - 15th 2025.

The 20 quilts on display, along with the Burnett River Textile Art Group were those chosen to represent Australia at an international quilt exhibition, and will be remembered as a highlight of BQI and a credit to the outstanding skills of our members.

YOKOHAMA WORLD QUILT FESTIVAL NOVEMBER 2025

Bundaberg Quilters Inc was privileged to recieve an invitation from the Japan Quilt Society (JQS) Secretariat to exhibit twenty of our members quilts at the Yokohama World Quilt Festival in November 2025.

Imagine the surprise when I announced this special invitation to our members. We were in the middle of organising our Quilt Exhibition at the Multiplex Centre, Bundaberg for August, where we displayed over two hundred quilts.
Dai Ikeda from Patchwork Ninja who was a trader at our event, agreed to oversee the selection process. A challenging & difficult task, he made us proud by giving such good advice, from so many beautiful quilts to showcase. The quilts ranged from Traditional, Modern, Contemporary, Art & Scenic of all sizes. It was such a diverse selection of high standard quilts.

The JQS arranged all the transportation, before we knew it, the quilts were packed and on their way to Japan. Four of our members ( including myself) joined Dai's Ninja Tour which included a visit to the festival. A brilliant tour, and the excitement & anticipation growing. Other members of our club were also in attendance.

The Exhibition could not have been better, so much space and the lighting & display was excellent. The festival recorded over 22,000 visitors, an increase in attendance numbers spells out its popularity.

The show was just fabulous, with displays from four other countries including of course the magnificent quilts & garments from Japan.
We are proud to say Bundaberg Quilters were the only club from Australia to exhibit - What an honour.

It was an exciting, emotional time, almost surreal, and we were made to feel very welcome.

I spent time talking with visitors from all of the world, answering questions, talking about Bundaberg, Qld, and of course our quilt club, discussing details of the work, our members and their quilts, recieving valuable feedback and wonderful compliments.

I will never forgot this special day and to be able to share it with such gracious Quilters was incredibly special indeed.

☸️ CARTWHEELS ☸️

As part of our recent "A Wonderland Of Quilts" biennial exhibition for 2025, Bundaberg Regional Council supported our club with a Regional Arts Development Fund ( RADF) grant.

Our 2025 quilt judge & workshop tutor, the amazingly talented Jan Phillips, generously donated a bundle of batik fabrics that were used to make the " CARTWHEELS" quilt, a pattern designed by Jan and was one of the workshops available during our 3 day event.

A small group of BQI members worked collaboratively to produce a visually stunning quilt with Jan's technical guidance and our highly skilled members.

BQI would like to acknowledge the contributing members -
Jacqui Whittaker, Marion Strohfeldt, Rhonda Dunning, Mary Bristow, Darren Wilkinson & Christine Schifke ( Community Member). CARTWHEELS has been expertly finished with machine quilting by BQI member Glenda O' Dea.

Bundaberg Regional Council will be featuring a display of all projects made with the proceeds of the recent ( RADF) grants from organisations & groups in our community, including our "CARTWHEELS"

We invite you to visit the The School of Arts, Bourbong St, Bundaberg
Wednesday 26 November- Tuesday 2 December
