Through authors talks, workshops, performance and discussion, we'll use literature to come together and understand new ideas. Ballarat Writers' Festival invites writers, readers and lovers of words to gather in the heart of Ballarat. The Festival is a public event for all ages where emerging and established writers will converse about their work, practice and expertise. Through author talks, works

The campaign to establish the first large-scale Writing Festival in Ballarat builds on the success of previous events of Ballarat Writers Incorporated (BWI). For almost 30 years BWI has supported the art of writing in Western Victoria on a not-for-profit basis. BWI is affiliated with Writers Victoria and supports a diversity of members through regular members nights, competitions, spoken word events, workshop series and writing club.

Our Story

In 2017 the Ballarat Writers' Festival (BWFI) invited writers, readers and lovers of words to gather in the heart of Ballarat. The public event for all ages featured emerging and established Audtralian writers conversing about their work, practice and expertise. Through author talks, workshops, performance, and discussion the Festival drew both Ballarat locals and visitors together to hear, share and explore new ideas. The campaign to establish the first large-scale Writing Festival in Ballarat built on the success of previous events of Ballarat Writers Incorporated (BWI) who has supported the art of writing in Western Victoria on a not-for-profit basis for almost 30 years. The unfolding story of Ballarat Writers’ Festival will continue in 2018, stay tuned for exciting announcements.
