Make your own Kitchen Cleaner for a healthier and low-waste alternative ♻

Want to kick the habit of high-chemical and petroleum-based cleaners? Looking for a simple, reliable all-purpose cleaner recipe you can actually stick with? Finding it hard to source ingredients, or frustrated by having to buy far more than you need? Then this Bulk Make Your Own session is for you.

Supported by Roving Refills and led by our wonderful volunteer Dianne, this hands-on workshop will guide participants through making liquid laundry detergent, pure magic bathroom cleaner and an all purpose cleaner in bulk using Dianne’s favourite Nancy Birtwhistle recipes.

The products will then be divided up for everyone to take home, test out and use. Bring your own bottles if you like, or use one of our upcycled brown plastic bottles. Everyone will leave with at least 200ml of each product in which you can add your own essential oils to finish.

This session coincides with our monthly Waste Not Hub, so arrive early from 10am and check out the repair hub, clothes & food swap, waste sort and cafe.

Our Waste Not Hub yesterday welcomed some new and familiar faces, and was always a hive of reuse, repair and rewarding activity 😄

The Repair Hub had 19 visits equating to 15kg of items saved from landfill.

Dianne and Sara's Make Your Own Kitchen Cleaners session was very popular where attendees were able to make and take home, a laundry liquid, all purpose cleaner and pure magic toilet cleaner using Nancy Birtwhistle's original recipes - all using bulk ingredients from Roving Refills Inner North in repurposed containers for the perfect low-waste home DIY.

The recipes are available in our Nancy Birtwhistle book, available in our "waste not" library that you can browse at the next Waste Not Hub on Saturday, August 8 from 10am-12.30pm, 78 St Leonards Rd.
