Today is World Environment Day 🌏

It's a reminder that the health of our environment is shaped by the choices we make every day - the seeds we plant, the habitats we protect, and the communities we build around caring for nature.

This year's Nature Festival theme, Seed, invites us to think about the power of small actions that create lasting change. Today we celebrate the people, places and projects helping to care for nature in South Australia and around the world.

It's feeling very wintery out there, but according to the Kaurna seasonal calendar, we're still in Parnati - the windy season.

The Kaurna seasonal calendar follows four seasons, guided by the changes in Country:

🌞 Warltati (January - March) - the hot season
🍃 Parnati (April - June) - the windy season
🌧️ Kudlila (July - September) - the wet season
🌱 Wirltutu (October - December) - the mild warm season

As we move through the final weeks of Parnati, it's a chance to pay attention to the signs of the season around us - the winds, the changing landscape and the rhythms of nature that have guided people on Kaurna Country for thousands of years.

What seeds are you planting at the moment? 🌱

An idea?
A friendship?
A ritual?
A garden?
A future?

This year’s Nature Festival theme, Seed, invites us to reflect on the quiet beginnings that shape what comes next. The small acts of care, creativity and connection that grow over time.

As we count down to Nature Festival 2026, we’ll be sharing stories of seeds - literal and metaphorical - and we’d love to hear yours too. What are you nurturing right now?

Save your seeds 🌱

This October, Adelaide Botanic Garden will host The Great Botanic Seed Swap and Share - a community event that celebrates growing, sharing and connecting through seeds.

We’re calling on home gardeners, balcony growers and community gardens to start saving seeds now to help grow the swap. We’re especially looking for common kitchen garden and companion plant seeds to share with others across the community.

Please avoid collecting seeds from public parks or gardens, agricultural or conservation areas, or plants listed as declared weeds.

Have a large amount to share but need help cleaning or sorting? Reach out to Bec via [email protected] 🌾

✨ REGIONAL 'SEED' GRANTS OPEN ✨

The Nature Festival is once again offering micro-grants of up $1000 to ‘seed’ events in regional areas.

These grants offer a modest boost to help creative projects and events in regional South Australia get off the ground and register for this year’s Nature Festival.

Applications are currently being accepted and will close 12 June. Please get in touch with any queries.

In past years we have funded everything from ‘seed dating’ to ephemeral art to a Murray River trek. We look forward to reading your ideas.

It is with excitement that we announce event applications for the 2026 Nature Festival are now open!

As a lightly-curated community movement celebrating South Australia’s love of nature, we invite you to join us by applying to run an event during this year’s festival (Sept 25th - Oct 11th).

The Nature Festival reminds us of the benefit that a deeper connection to nature can offer all of us, and we’re particularly interested in authentic and unusual ways of connecting to nature. We’re looking for diverse event hosts who can support all sorts of creative, participatory, emotional, and remarkable experiences. These could include arts, music, food, family, performance, Aboriginal Culture, gardens, wildlife walks, learning opportunities, and adventure.

The theme for the seventh year of the Nature Festival is Seed, and we particularly invite events that respond to the theme. This might be a literal response, perhaps showcasing skills such as seed collection, storage and/or propagation. Diverse interpretations of the theme, such as events about possibility, potential, awaiting the right conditions and life cycles, are also warmly welcomed.

As long as your event resonates with the festival's mission, connecting participants to nature, it doesn’t have to respond to the theme, but many people find it helpful to use the theme as a creative springboard.

Event applications close on July 20th. Apply now: https://www.naturefestival.org.au/participate

Lime Green Festival is a bold experiment in what the future of live music can look like when climate action is placed at the centre of the experience. Designed as a 100% off-grid event, the festival is built on a commitment to reducing environmental impact while still delivering a vibrant, high-quality day of music, culture and connection.

Taking place in Adelaide on 18 April at Point Malcolm Reserve, Lime Green is more than just a music festival. It is a community-driven, forward-thinking platform that invites audiences to engage, learn and imagine new possibilities for how live events can operate in a more regenerative way. Check it out.

Festival Opening Hours: 2:00 pm to 10:00 pm.
