🇬🇧 The Wels International Puppet Theatre Festival
was founded in 1991 as a relatively small "Puppienale". Since then, it has been a focal point for lovers of the most diverse styles and artistic approaches to puppet theatre and presents around 50 performances by international artists during the festival week each year. In addition to presenting traditional forms of puppet theatre, the Wels Festival positions itself primarily as a platform for contemporary puppetry art and promotes up-and-coming animation artists. The "Young Animation Festival" has been an integral part of the Wels Festival since 2023. With "Young Animation", Wels opens up spaces for students and newcomers in the genres of puppetry, puppet theatre and animated film.
