If you need to score 7.0+ in IELTS writing task 2, you need to understand that there is more than one structure you can use.
We see many IELTS tutors on Instagram and Facebook telling their followers that they HAVE to use a four paragraph essay structure:
👉Introduction
👉Body paragraph 1
👉Body paragraph 2
👉Conclusion
This is ok if you need band 5.5-6.5.
However, one way to reach a higher score is to understand that there are different essay structures you can use.
For example, for an essay that asks
"To what extent do you agree or disagree?"
You could write
✍️Body paragraph 1 - reasons for
✍️Body paragraph 2 - reasons against
However, you could also write
✍️Body paragraph 1 - reason 1 why I agree
✍️Body paragraph 2 - reason 2 why I agree
OR
✍️Body paragraph 1 - reason why some people disagree
✍️Body paragraph 2 - reason 1 why I agree
✍️Body paragraph 3 - reason 2 why I agree
The 2nd and 3rd versions make your position stronger. Version 3 gives you more opportunity to use different vocabulary and grammar.
There is also a 4th version, if you want to partially agree.
There are many ways to write IELTS essays.
To get a high score, you need to:
✅Understand the most appropriate structure for each essay type
✅Practice alternative structures and see which you prefer.
✅Write and get proper feedback
